Next-generation Speedster: link to Porsche factory info
Porkers.co.uk's "997 SPEEDSTER RENDERING" thread, with photos of 2 RLers' 993s toward the bottom of that page.
I think the 993 shape lends itself very well to being a Speedster
Not sure the 997 will be as svelte, with it's larger dimensions.
There is a PH'er who has one of these too.
That'll be mine!

And, boy, does it look great! Thank you to TeamSpeed for allowing us to reproduce the image here.
Speaking of Speedsters, we have a full feature on a real – but not factory built – 997 Speedster in the next issue of Total 911.

AutoBlog.com's "Rumormill: Porsche 911 Speedster in the works"

Of all the names and model designations used by Porsche in its illustrious history, there are two that stand out more than others: the 911 and Speedster. And it's easy to see why. The Porsche 911 has become the de facto sportscar since its introduction in 1963 and many people simply refer to the seminal 356 convertible as the Porsche Speedster.
Might Porsche be working on a new machine that would combine these two icons? According Auto Express, the answer is yes. Take it all with an appropriately sized grain of salt for now, but the rumormill would have Porsche building exactly 100 911 Speedsters for roughly $300,000 (£200,000) each.
That princely sum will reportedly buy a 911 boasting a cut-down windshield and racing-style sloping rear humps behind each passenger headrest. The German automaker's well-known 3.8-liter flat six would provide power, boosted 17 horses over the mill found in the 911 Sport Classic for a total of 402 horsepower.
Rear-wheel drive over all-wheel drive should make traditionalists happy, and a supposed 0 to 60 times of about 4.5 seconds and top speed of 190 miles per hour ought to please everyone else. Also, Porsche is reportedly cooking up wide-body non-Speedsters that will use the same engine and be available in either coupe or cabriolet forms with a much more reasonable price tag.

I was always a huge fan of the 1989 Speedster and the few 993 Speedster conversions that I have seen.... sadly this 997 just doesn't cut it. What a pity as I have loved the Speedster concept forever...

FWIW: 997 Speedster's featured in the current issue, #64, of Total 911 Magazine (same mag that featured my 993 ).

2011 Speedster bound for Paris Motor Show
AutoBlog.com's "Rumormill: Porsche 911 Speedster bound for Paris Motor Show"
A prototype Porsche Speedster on the 997 platform has been sneaking about here and there for the last two years. According to a report by Dutch daily De Telegraf, Porsche is finally ready to bring it to the masses as a sendoff before the 2012 Porsche 911 arrives next year.
Right now, that appears to mean nothing more than an appearance at the Paris Motor Show. We'd guess, however, that based on audience reaction it could see limited production, à la the 911 Sport Classic. Or who knows, as with the 993 Porsche Speedster the company might show it off, build only two of them and leave us all hanging. But you wouldn't do that to us again, would you, Porsche?

The August 19 report by Dutch daily De Telegraf that AutoBlog.com credits as the source for their ^^ above news piece has no mention of the word 'Speedster'
Rough English translation, "Farewell-911 at Paris show:"
LONDON - Porsche unveils the end of September a new, limited edition 911.
The following 911 has long been tested by Porsche. Late 2011, he expected. The current 911 deserves a decent farewell, hence a Porsche latter, special design on the market. Well informed sources close to the Porsche Exclusive 'm going to build and that the model is similar to the expensive, in a series of 250 built 911 Sport Classic.
