Default 993...Did you know? (993 trivia thread)

Whenever I buy a new car I like to learn everything about it, including all the quirks, mid-year production changes, and little known facts about them. I'd like this thread to go much like this one I ran across on the 928 Rennlist forum while searching for an unrelated issue:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/260269-928-did-you-know.html

I hope to learn a lot about my newly acquired 993, and I think all of us might learn tidbits we never knew if this thread takes off.

Here's three to start out...Did you know:

1. If your remove the intermittent wiper relay, you can easily park your wipers on the passenger's side of the windshield. The only cost is your intermittent wiper feature is disabled (not a problem here in SoCal).

2. Porsche had designed a completely new dashboard for the 993. The 1965-style dash was retained because of the red ink flowing at Porsche during the development phase (1991-1992). This is according to Excellence Was Expected.

3. Narrow-body 993s came standard with 16" alloys, which makes the stock "SUV" wheelwell gap even more silly looking. Almost all 993s upgraded to the 17" wheels.

I think that was just the 1995 model year for the smaller rims - right? I remember reading a car and driver test on a 95 and the wheels did look very small....

this isn't really "a little know fact" since everyone knows, but the black cars got the highest hp engines....

You can stop your rear spoiler from flapping up and down continuously, if you just depress it once in the up position once the vehicle exceeds 10mph.

I thought the 16", 17" and 18" tires are all supposed to have about the same outside diameter?

Good to know about the spoiler stopper!

True that the factory did this, but most people put lower profile tires on the 16" alloys after the factory tall tires wear out, like the green cab above. In any case the "black space" between the alloy and fenders is the same no matter what the tire profile is. 17" wheels were optional on all narrow-body 993s, AFAIK.

Yes, and 16s were standard equipment after '95, to answer a previous post. Most Dealers in the USA pre-ordered the cars, then sold them as-ordered, making some believe that the standard items were what the Dealer ordered.

Many don't know what the standard wheel/tire was on the C2S when it was introduced......

The mirrors on the car are not symmetrically placed on the car.

The steering wheel is slightly off center relative to the drivers seat.

That is nice to know as I haven't even taken delivery of my car and the wipers bug me.

The 1995 model year lasted 18 months (from memory).

In my view, there are three iterations of the 1995 993 -- early, middle and late -- early had a simpler rear blower assembly, smaller or shorter stone guards, slide on second layshaft gear-- not certain about two or four plate LSD

Late build 1995 cars got immobilizer and high mounted TBL.
