993...Did you know? (993 trivia thread)

Sorry....Just a fact.

I have not heard this mentioned before, but when I ordered my 97 993 S I was told that the leather band that runs between the dash top and bottom bolster was some exotic leather that was only used on the S cars. I think it was carried over into the 1998 model year.
Anyone confirm this?

Whenever I buy a new car I like to learn everything about it, including all the quirks, mid-year production changes, and little known facts about them. I'd like this thread to go much like this one I ran across on the 928 Rennlist forum while searching for an unrelated issue:
<snip>
1. If your remove the intermittent wiper relay, you can easily park your wipers on the passenger's side of the windshield. The only cost is your intermittent wiper feature is disabled (not a problem here in SoCal).

i'm kinda disappointed that there have not been more replies to this thread.
my addition, probably true to most P cars as my wife's 06 cayman does the same thing
1. if you toggle the turn signal stalk to L or R after turning the ign key off, the corresponding "parking" lights illuminate.
I've never seen anyone in the US use this feature (except TJ90). He tells me that it's common in Euro to indicate that...............
a. you're only parked there for a short time
or
b. don't hit me, i know it's dark out
or
c. ??????????????
careful you don't leave it on too long, or your battery will go flat.
My question regarding your #1 above.
I'm going to do Pollen filter replace. hood strut replace and change wiper parking to right side sometime soon.
i was going to fillow this DIY from Robin's site;
http://p-car.com/diy/wiper/
Do you know of another technique?
cheers

True. Remember the guy who sold his 964 and bought a 993, thereby raising the average I.Q. of both groups??????

I suspect the 1/2 parking light feature is to allow the parking lights to be left on overnight so cars will see them at night in the street while draining only 1/2 the battery supply.
I'm not 100% sure of this but I have driven in GB/Europe though I didn't do much secondary road driving at night.
As a side note, I saw on some news program where GPS's are causing a real havoc in GB since people are taking these smaller roads that weren't designed to handle the traffic that the use of GPS's is subjecting them too. It's really causing a problem with the trucks (tight/narrow corners).

The body of an 993 is not mounted on a chassis in the center, it's slightly towards the passener side.
Go and measure the gap between the fender and a tire,it's different from one side to another.

I had heard this a few years back -- someone mentioned the amount of offset is 6mm.

When I bought my car form the original owner, she gave me a video (which was given to her by the dealer when the car was new) which is called (something like) "Hidden Mysteries of the 911."
I've since given it to Coochas and he's put it up on his excellent site. Here is a link: http://www.coochas.com/porsche/Resources/993-Rome.wmv

Hey Bull, I heard that selling a 964 to buy a 993 is the first indication that your IQ is slipping. Keeping the 964 and buying a 993 indicates an IQ increase.

I drove my 95 C4 then hopped in the 97 C4S.
The V-ram cars have SO MUCH more midrange & are much smoother. Really seam to pull harder towards redline. But the 95's feel a little more raw, & sound nicer @ WOT.
