OK, no fair, John!!! I want a letter attesting to the safety concerns of having worn, splitting leather seats. C'mon, now. This could case serious potential injury to other drivers as a result of my fidgeting behind the controls ...not to mention the loss of ego and self esteem when compared with other glorious 993s, of which said damage carrying psycological repercussions which can resonate for generations to come. This is a serious matter now!!!

We, at Rennlist, would like to take a moment to thank you and your husband for adherence to issues concerning automotive safety, correct tire sizes (again, a safety issue) and supporting those same issues in an open and public forum (Rennlist).

Ms. cabrio993, while we know that on-going maintenance to a high-performance vehicle may seem daunting at times, please know your support and concern of your husband's safety can not be trivialized nor overlooked. In fact, while some spouses might take issue with the initial expenditure, we are thrilled to see your support of your husband's investments in "four new black round thingys" which should help ensure the vehicles longevity and safe operation on the roadway systems. Further, this initial investment in four new tires, of the correct size and type - should also give you some piece of mind that your loved one is minimizing his risk through increasing his margin of safety while operating his vehicle. And at what price for that piece of mind? A minuscule investment, indeed.

Ms. cabrio993, again - you have our collective thanks in these matters, and our combined gratitude for your unselfishness and support of your husband - Mr. cabrio993.

With my sincerest thanks and gratitude to you, Ms. cabrio993,

I remain,

John Dunkle

That's awesome!!! LOL

I just printed so I can give it to her when she sees the UPS truck back up and deliver my new four round thingys...

Nice letter, indeed.

I think we should make a case for Ninemeister heads being an all-too overlooked facet of safety, too, especially when one seeks to safely and securely outrun and pass cars of higher displacement and torque.

I'm doing this for you and the (snif) kids, honey!

....you think I can pull that off with a straight face?

I just bought a set myself. They'll get a few laps at Watkins Glen this coming weekend. I will report back.

i bought based on this post but i'm stuck in the middle of a problem with some rubbing on the ruf wheels i added which i think hit the stock suspension.

i like the price however although the dealership gave me some flack about putting these on the car saying something like they were not porsche approved etc. at less than 700 for the set i'll take my chances.

Shoot - I'm sorry!!! YES!!! Thanks for the reminder!!! OK _ WHAT I AM GOING TO POST MAY APPLY TO SOME, AND NOT FOR OTHERS..!!!!

I run in the Instructors group (RED) - and the first session out was slow, to see what the tires would do and to break them in (they had less than 100 miles on them before I hit the track - not advised..) I think I was the perfect HWFM Racing ombudsman during the break in.. OK...

Fast forward to the next day (3 sessions later).. Temps were about 60 degrees F in the afternoon. Tire pressures were set at 33/37 COLD (post track session - these were 36/41). Observations...??

For a street tire?? The HTR ZIIIs outperformed my previous Michelans, Toyos, Dunlops, BFG tires. They have a stiffer sidewall than the HTR ZIIs (but a whole lot - which is why I didn't like the ZIIs on the track). Performance of the ZIIIs are as follows (rated 1-10 compared to the tires above):

Feedback - 8
Traction - 8.5
Braking - 9
"Looseness" in the corners - 9
Predictability - 9.5
Ability to control - 9.5
"Hot" laps - 8.5

I imagine I killed the life of these tires on the second day by - oh - about 5,000 miles - BUT - they are great tires to run to the limit.

For everyday use? Good. They will flat-spot over night - so it may take a mile or two to run them out.

In wet weather/rain? Absolutely fine.. Back it down a notch - and they grip as well as any ultra-high-performance tire. Maybe better..??

Let me know if I missed something - OK???

Oh - dear god - find another dealer... If you want me to take your "dealer salesperson" for a "ride" on the track, tell him to to bring his "Porsche Approved" tires (OMG - they suck (see my previous post)) and I'll bring the ZIIIs. - and we'll run both on my 993 C4 Also tell him to bring his helmet and waiver - as we'll run in Red group with both.....

Want to guess which tires I can make him puke while riding on (don't answer that - I've only made 3 passengers puke - ever - and none of them on Porsche Approved tires..?? )

Perfect, thanks. I had heard from some they were no good on the track, but your report seems to refute those claims. I'm still trying to find my way to a DE (life keeps getting in the way).

Don't forget - if folks are comparing them to something like R1s or Hoosier A6s - or whatever - the HTR ZIIIs are NOT those.. My impressions are compared to "aggressive" street tires only! Are they as good as dedicated comp tires? No way! But then again - I drive on the track what I drive "to the track"

Best to you!!

John
