Default Suspension Delimma: Lowered but Soft

The shocks on my wife's 993 Cab are shot and I want to lower the car, however my wife HATES the ride of my 993 Coupe with PSS-9's ... which I was going to swap onto the Cab when my JIC/Cross kit goes on the Coupe.

So basically I want to retain the softer 'stock' ride but get the car lowered.

Most of the previous suspension conversations center around enhanced handling and the ride has been secondary. In this case the 'ride' is the most important consideration.

Thoughts?

If your dampers are shot you will get an improvement in ride by replacing these. As per the previous poster i would go for ROW M033 springs with suitable dampers. Thi swill give you ROW M030 ride height with softer springs.

Maybe go with OEM shocks, based on recent threads on the Bilstein HDs. And 17" wheels will soften things up, too.

Install the PSS-9's as planned but put them full-soft as pcar964 did:

The car not only is more comfortable than the stock setup over ANY bump, but it still handles better than the factory ROW M030. For street use, I am now convinced PSS9s are the best option. Adjustability is great!

Beat me to it! I can't imagine anyone would have a problem with PSS9s at full soft... if they do, they probably belong in a Lexus and not a 993 They're very comfortable even with 18" wheels.

Come on guys, you're missing the obvious: Eibach. They seem to design their springs to have similar spring rates as OEM, but they lower the car over an inch.

Simply reducing the shock setting on PSS9's isn't going to make them a comfy ride. It'll help a bit, but let's be honest: PSS9 spring rates are way stiffer than stock springs, so this is not going to give you the most comfortable ride out there.

Maybe not the MOST comfortable ride, but certainly comfortable enough for most situations. I honestly don't know how much more compliant you'd want it to be... It's not a Cadillac And honestly, it feels more compliant than any factory setup I've yet driven.

Sure, but if his WIFE says PSS9's are too firm, who are we to argue?? I'm married and I know better, lol.

more like overly bouncy at 9/8/7

cushy might be at 6/5

wife hates the ride probably at 4/3/2/1

your mileage may vary
