Your quote on the 996 forum indicates otherwise...
"In general the 993 forum is pretty much full of **** when it comes to this topic. The funny part is I think some of them actually believe what they are writing."

Why do all the 996 guys come here to join these threads? Why can't everyone accept that different people like different things about cars and call it a day?

"However, it doesn't seem like honesty is what you are looking for. Why else would you ignore Porsche's published weights and try to confuse the issue by doing the following;
- Bringing up 964 and 997 weights
- Ignoring Porsche's published figures (After all, why would they know what the cars weigh?)
- Ignoring the Mk 1 996 C2 (it magically disapeared from your list)
- Bringing up GT3's and Turbo's, where did that come from?"
Somewhat offended by the above.
Haven't got a reliable Mk1 curb weight, so I opted not to show it.
Why use tested weights instead of manufacturers'? Because third party weights are more reliable for a road car. Manufacturers tend to "optimise" published weight, some more than others.
Finally, why include other models? To show that 911s have been generally getting heavier. Where a 964 turbo, with intercoolers, turbos, 4wd, wide body etc etc weighs about the same as a bog standard 996 C2.... or a 964 RS weighs much less than the 996 RS. Kind of obvious, I thought. Or maybe not...

Just checking...
Is this still a 993 board?
If stock 996 vs. stock 993 build quality overall, IMHO, was comparable, I would have chose the 996 and I would push through my personal misgivings about some of the aesthetics. My observation was that quality declined from the 993 to the 996 overall even though the natural process of evolution brings a more 'performant' beast. AND.. the overall feel of the 996 didn't do it for me. The Mitsu Evo is a hot little beast and overshadows my 993 on paper in many respects as to the advancement of technology and performance. But if it was one or the other, there's no contest. I still like the 996 as a Porsche, but these 2 things tip the scales as far as stock 993 vs. stock 996. Air-cooling vs. water cooling aside.
Now the 996 GT3 & TT I would much more consider without a doubt.
Just my opinions and observations of course. Get out and drive!

I drove a 996 and a 993 back to back this summer, while I was contemplating a purchase. The 993 is a much more solid feeling car. The non-leather interior of the 996 is cheap...too much plastic. I had a 2003 Boxster for about 6 months; same complaint about the interior. Now, the 997 has a much better interior than the 996.
I think the 996 has a lot of potential. I believe a stock 993 realizes much more ot its potential than a stock 996.
As far as price is concerned, I think the production numbers of the 996 has a lot to do with its depreciation. The water-cooled argument is very real among enthusiasts, but the average new Porsche purchaser (non-enthusiast) could care less.

Several months ago I drove a 993 and 996 (several variants of each) over a 2 day period. My conclusion was the 993 FELT better, to me, at least. It drove much more "connected" and I like the styling way better.
Thats just me!
Im in the market for a 993 now. As for 996s, the GT3 would be the only one I would ever own.

In case y'all haven't figured this out yet, the original post is likely a troll. Look at his other threads. Now he started the same $hit on the 996 forum yesterday. He clearly knows a lot more (or should know more by now) than he lets on, but admonishes this forum to keep the discussion going, despite acknowledging that the subject has been hashed to DEATH a million times.
I seriously doubt that he even has a pot to **** in, much less pull the trigger on EITHER model, so let's move on.
