Aww this **** again.........have you ever heard of the search function?

IMHO, the 993 and the 996 are both great cars. You won't go wrong buying either car.

That being said, I would say the following;

The 993;
- feels more "raw" for lack of a better term
- has an interior that is much more reminiscent of past 911's
- exhibits a nice "thunk" when you close the doors
- has more of a DNA link with past 911's

The 996
- feels more "modern" for lack of a better term
- is faster in every way (from acceleration to top speed)
- has superior handling and braking.
- has a stronger/stiffer chassis
- is less maintenance intensive

Honestly, if you ask a guy driving a 993 he will probably prefer it and if you ask a guy driving a 996 he will probably prefer it. Furthermore you can find guys that have switched both ways (993 to 996, or 996 to 993) that are perfectly happy.

Do yourself (and us) a favor by doing the following.

- Close both threads (you will only generate hard feelings on both sides and it will deteriorate - once again "search function")
- Get your lazy *** off the couch and go for a few test drives.

That way "YOU" can decide which car is best for you.

Good luck.

Ditto EVERYTHING above.

Will add this;
I did the drive test having an old 911 and moving "up" - bought the 996.

The feel of the 993 for me did not offer the move "up" but when I sat in the 996 and hit the pedal, I knew instantly that was the ride I needed.

The wife really identified the difference, "the dash on the 996 is not in your face, there is leg room and it has a CUP HOLDER"!

It may take you a while to "personalize" a 996 but once you do - you won't regret it!

Do your DD, go drive a few cars - all of them from the TT to the Cab - you will REALLY see the differences.

If you are buying a car to DRIVE, the above makes the decision pretty easy, no?

I had two 80's 944s, and am so DONE with nursing an "antique" Porsche back to health!

It's already started in the other thread. Some newb actually thinks the only reason a dealer could like the 966 is because he has inventory to move.

Lame reasoning, some of you guys who race need to take guys like that for a ride and teach them a lesson or two. haha

If you have to ask the Question... then you do not understand the car's enough to be given an answer!

Do some leg work and search learn, and if you need clarity on a subject, Like leg room??? I will be driving XXXX do you think this is Important??? Warranty, Another topic specific that will not lead to a "Pissing contest"

FYI Your Question comes across like one that is trying to start a fight.
I love P-Cars ALL of them...Most of them... but I bought mine for my SPECIFIC needs

I used to own a 993 C4S and just bought a 996. I took my wife for her first drive this weekend and the first thing she said was, "Wow! I like this car a lot more than your old one."

What does this mean? It just means the two cars are really "apples and oranges". My 996 rides better, is more comfortable , and performs better than my 993 ever did.

That being said, I would love to have another 993 again some day....but only if I could keep a 996 or 997 in the garage too.

Started with a 68' 912, then a perfect 79' 911, and now a 99' 996. I think the 996 is the best Porsche I've owned so far. No doubt a newer (evolved) 997 will be even better than this. The end.
