cackling sound

Default cackling sound

What is tyhat crackling sound coming from the engine after you turn off the car?, is it oil dropping on my heat shields?

Probably just the contraction of the sheet metal as it cools.

Oil dripping on the heat exchangers sound like "psss psss pssss" not crackling! :-)


Its just all the bits of the engine cooling down and moving around. A 911 engine expands from 1/8 to 1/4" in width from stone cold to running temperature. When you take one apart you start to realize that the expansion abilities are built in ; i.e. some of the gaskets are designed to slide etc. When the engine is cooling down its contracting and hance the noises....

I'd check your mother-in-law as being a potential source of that cackling sound...

Your car is cackling that you're about to blow a wad of cash because the valves will wear out, the condenser will fail, and the alternator will blow all in the same week.

Oh, that's MY nightmare.... 8^)

cackling is cause Halloween is nigh on us. Once that holiday is past, things will return to normal.
Did a new broom mysteriously appear in your garage??
