Default Problem with my stereo - help?

What's wrong with my non hi-fi stereo other than it's stock?

No sound coming out of the passenger side speakers front or back at normal volumes. Volume turned all the way up, i get distorted sound out of the front speaker. I thought the speakers were blown so i swapped the right and left front speakers and still the same thing.

Problem with the headunit then?

Thanks

Don't want to sound sarcastic, but did you check your "Fade" front/rear setting...?

Saw you give that advice before when I was searching but thanks.

When I use the balance/fader to isolate the front passenger, I can only get distorted sound at very high volume. Nothing out of the back passenger.

I then swapped the front right and left speakers and got the same result.

I may just replace the front speakers and headunit anyway.

PM me if you are interested in a CDR-210 or a CR-210

Sounds to me as if the left channel is blown in the head unit, or you have a short in your left speaker wires (tho it would not likely affect front and rear, so that's probably not it). Probably time to replace the head unit.

Probably blown output IC's. Not uncommon if there has been a short for a while. It's not expensive to repair usually either.

Not an uncommon problem w/ the stock head units. Many of us have updated to the CDR-210 direct from Becker since we like the stock Porsche look. Do a search on "Becker cdr 210" for a great deal of info. If the speakers are original they'll need replacing too (10 y.o. speakers are crap) but the options are all over the map for them.

Thanks for all of the input.
I've found of set of MB Quart 5.25 on ebay and I'll probably replace the head unit with something with an external aux. I'll get something more along the lines of porsche instead of "yo is that JDM?". I did search for CDR 210 but the ipod solution is less than optimal for me.
