996 TT????

With all the "negative press" out there on TPC (and I realize there are some happy customers - Mr. Bock, ava6603, etc), I just cant see justifying the risk.

If I had to chose between the 2, I'd go Protomotive. However, with my current gearing...a Turbo (or SC) would not be ideal.

Those in the Southeast may want to consult Viperbob at Vortex...he uses live remapping software from Protomotive. Although, as far as the SC route, I'm not sure if Viperbob has done any of these installs.

Ava6603 and TheOtherEric...you guys have 2 of my top 5 most favorite cars on Rennlist....gorgeous!

Well thank you very much for the compliment. Updated pics to come soon showing all interior and exterior upgrades . Your car is no slouch either and I envy the weight loss! Your car would be insane with a Proto turbo kit.

I'd not heard of this Protomotive kit but it sound pretty good. If I ever find some spare cash I'm tempted to do 9M heads or supercharging but will add this to the maybe list. My cousin who does CAD engine design was considering looking a more developed supercharger kit using a more efficient SC (Lysholm?), better designed pipework, intercooler, etc but he lost interest when the 9M heads came out and a Japanese contract came up! It's still something that I might look at in future years.

With the Protomotive kit why are there no silencers? Won't it be pretty noisy?!

Cheers,

David

That was my impression too, although I remember something about having to mod the underside to the stock deck lid to clear the pulley on the SC.

Here are two shots of a intercooled TPC supercharger installed on my 993 C4S. I can tell you for certain that you can NOT fit this under the stock deck of a 993. The area framed in the second photo is the part of the supercharger that is above the plane of where the deck would close. My car already had a aerokit on it so I didn't have this issue.

As to performance ... been on my car for two seasons and about 5,000 miles and I've had zero problems. (well except for the CEL that indicates random misfires).

I may be a little late to the game on this thread. However, I thought that you guys would be interested in my intercooler setup. Since I really could not justify the cost of the TPC liquid/air setup, I fabricated my own air/air setup that fits underneath my RS spoiler.

Since, TPC would not upgrade my unichip set for the intercooler, I bought an Innovate wideband and ended up using a single injector one size larger than the injector that came with the unichip. Initially TPC would not give me specs on the injector and only stated that it was a "Porsche motorsport injector".
I found that it was a common $60 72lb injector and could easily be upgraded to a larger size based on your fuel needs.

Since last spring, I have put 6k miles on the setup without any issues. The whole package cost me $400 including the new injector. The intercooler is a used spearco core that I bought on ebay for $50.

Onefstm,

Looks like a nice clean and very inexpensive installation. Notice any difference in performance?

TPC says that you can fit their kit under a factory lid:
The intercooler will fit with stock decklid. It is a tight fit but it
does fit. The inside of the decklid must be trimed....

I stand by my statement.

Yes, I would tend to agree with you, Dick. Cutting on our decklid is not something I'd want to do.

I have an RS spoiler, so I'm fine. Now I'm thinking about supercharging again instead of turbocharging. Gotta love that broad, flat torque curve...
