Have you guys seen this tool? scan gauge II
#3
I purchased the Scangauge a few months ago and have been happy with it. I use it mainly to reset codes and monitor some additional running parameters such as voltage, intake air temp and what I believe to be cylinder head temperature. I say "I believe to be" since the parameter comes-up as Water Temperature on the gauge and when I called Scangauge they were not sure what this block measures on an aircooled vehicle...
I have not permenantly installed it yet, but have placed it in front of the console, just wedged below the ashtray. The 90 degree OBDII plug does keep you from banging your knee when you are driving, but I am not sure if it is low enough for the cover to go back on, it is not really noticeable anyways.
Cheers,
Spyro

I have the original version which is larger, and due to it's size isn't easy to mount permenantly. Not a bad little item though. I would like the smaller one. They did offer a slight discount as I wanted to trade up, but kept the original.

Robin,
I recently bought one also, and have it velcroed on top of the wheel column cover and against the tach. I like it ! Like Spyro I kinda think the readout for coolant temp actually is the head temp readout. The readout rises quick and steady until about 285 F and stays there. This sounds too hot to me though.
Robin, what do you think ??

I currently have the scan gauge installed in the 996, since that's my daily driver. It is interesting to watch the coolant temperature go up as I get stuck in traffic, and also the big temperature drop on the intake temperature when the spoiler raises.
Most interesting, the 30 degree timing advance at highway crusing speed.

Hi Robin...thats interesting info for 996 people.....what have you seen on the 993......I have asked the manufacturers if they can provide a shorter cable.....I dont need such a mile of cable hanging about....I intend to mount under the ashtray in the 993 and as such only need about a foot of cable.

Robin, Interesting scan tool - any idea if this will work on a late 1995 993 with a OBDII connector and OBDI software?
