Default Let's talk about those mods we regret:

I saw this thread on the 911 Turbo forum and thought it was a great topic of conversation.
It might help others from making the same mistake we made..

So go ahead, help us all learn from the mistakes of others.. Which mods to you regreat and why?

Installing my PSS9s.

Why? Because I put only 1500 miles on them and then traded the car unexpectedly.

Could have been worse. I could have traded it for a non-Porsche car.

Well, the first cup holder I bought sucked...then I got one of those nice ones that attach to the passenger seat rail.

I actually don't regret any mods (and I've done my share!). Even the ones I didn't stick with (Supercups, then bypass pipes) I consider a fun learning experience and would do them again.

Oh, I take it back; I regret the HIDs that I installed with the huge ballasts in the trunk. You can now get HIDs with tiny ballasts that will fit inside the headlight bucket, thus no drilling or anything is required.

If I had clairvoyant powers, I would have gone straight to Motons rather than buy PSS-9's, but the Bilsteins were not a mod that I really regretted.

Not on the Ruf BTR, but I had an SSK experience (B&M) in my Cayman that is straight out of the horror movies. Eventually costed over $1,300.

So which cup holder is the best? The seat rail job that goes on the passenger side or the one that goes behind the ebrake lever? I will prolly get one for the 95 i am purchasing in the very near future

I use the cup holder mounted to the seat frame it works great. Only mod I regret would be M030 springs. Doing it again with my bad roads I would have gone M033 for a bit softer ride.

Default Piggy Back Oil Cooler and others :(

I bought a home built/shop built piggyback oil cooler that went on the back of the stock oil cooler. What a crock....oil temps were worse almost immediately. Off came that disaster on on went my Turbo S cooler, later sold and replaced by a secondary Ruf oil cooler that works great!!!

Sway bars from Performance Products...yuk, they really sucked.

ANDIAL advance device....all it did was add additional distributor advance which made the car more likely to ping on the crappy 91 octane gas we have in Cali....

B&B mufflers that came with the car when I bought it used...off they went, pronto, to be replaced by Robin Sun's RSR mufflers, a great purchase by the way!

Cool Dilettante: Great word!!!

dilettante \DIL-uh-tont; dil-uh-TONT; dil-uh-TON-tee; -TANT; -TAN-tee\, noun:
1. An amateur or dabbler; especially, one who follows an art or a branch of knowledge sporadically, superficially, or for amusement only.
2. An admirer or lover of the fine arts.

adjective:
1. Of or characteristic of a dilettante; amateurish.

Dilettante: I suppose I fit the bill!

My worst mod has to be the dents and scratches courtesy of the guy who was looking to buy my motorcycle and accidentally knocked it in gear while it was running. The only good part is that it will lead to a total re-spray, euro turbo bumper, turbo tail, new windshield and all new window rubber. I might even do the rain gutter delete. I have about 2 more weeks to make up my mind (and find the $$) before it goes to the body shop.
