Default Hello from Italy (new user)

Hi, my name is David I'm from Bologna (Italy), I'm loocking for a 993 C2S or C4S. I have registered in this great forum to receive your advice and opinions.
Why I'm loocking in EEUU? because in this moment it's so dificult to find a car with few km/miles and an honest price in Europe.
In this last month, I started to look some websites in the Usa market....and I understand that in this market I have the possibility to buy a good car.

Welcome Lunarossa, you've found a great resource in Rennlist. There are indeed some great cars available here in the 'States, but there are many European members here on the 993 board who can point in the right direction as well, I'm sure there's at least one good Carrera S in Italy

Welcome David. Good luck on your search. Something to think about; supposedly 1/2 of all Porsche built, go to California, where the weather is almost always nice. If you buy a car from the northern USA, it will have been exposed to winter time salt on the roads, if it was a daily driver. If it was a garage queen, then it should be OK. Which ever car you are interested in, check it out carefully.
I was in Italy in 1968 and have never forgotten how wonderful the life was there. You are lucky to live there. Chow.

Ciau David. I am sorry but I am going to disagree with you. I think you're a lucky guy. Nowadays Italy have the best prices for used Porsches in Europe hands down. Maybe even more competitive than Germany in certain cases. I don't know what are your specific taxes to import a car outside European community (vat) but I bet it is not worthy. If I were you I would search in Italy or jump to Germany to buy the car. It is very easy to find a good example at a great price in Germany. I bought a GT3 Clubsport for the same price range of a 993 C4S there.

Porsche dealer in LIVORNO has a good 4S at 55 € www.gesicar.it

Ciao! I was in Italy last summer, and will return this summer. I was told that Boxsters are around 100K euros. When I heard that, I was afraid to ask what a 911 would cost.
this is the best resource for learning about Porsches, so Buena Suerte! sorry if I get my Spanish and Italian mixed up.

I didn't see any Porsches the 10 days I was there, and only saw 4 Ferraris and 1 Lambo, and 3 of the Ferraris and the Lambo were actually when I was in Monaco.

good luck in your search!

What about Germany, where all those early RS cars are available. Bonjourno, and welcome. I head to Sicily next week for the Targa Florio.

Thanks for your wellcome, Yes in Europe there are many great 993 but the problem is the price 48/55K € it's not my budget, I so young (27) to pay it. And here in USA I show some great car for 42k/48K $ (32/36k €) with all the aditional cost for the import (6/8k €) at the end a good usa 993 for no more than 60000 miles I will pay 40/42k €, 5/8K € less....I think it's convenient....in my cas my father have a company with onw Vat number because of that I don't have topay the 100% cost of the import...

Italy it's a good countrie and I'm very happy to live here, my mother it's from Spain and I prefer Spain it's beter... but you live in a great countrie that I like very much....I have to say you something, your market are more honest and serious than the Italian...you hav the carfax or autochek...in europe we don't have anything like that...it's a great thing

Let me know where I can loock for my 993 CS, there are some wbsites, do yo know someone who sell his car....

Deatils of tthe car I'm loocking for;

1996-1998 993 C4S or C2S (my prefernece it's the C4S)
Ext color; Black, Silver, White, Blue, Yellow (no red or green)
Int color; Black (maybe Grey but I prefer black one)
Miles; max 60.000
Price; 42.000 / 46.000$
No aerokits, I prefer the original style interior and exterior

Optionals that I like but are not very important;
Xenon, CD charger, Sport seats, Alu pack, White dials....

let me know where I can find this car or similar...

Bongiorno David! Welcome on Rennlist. Take care if you buy a car in the States. You may be facing some trouble to pass the technical inspection prior to register the car in Italy. I don't know how your system works, but you better be sure before you buy. If some modifications are required, this could eat all the benefit you had to buy it in the US. Here a few interesting links to make up your mind about the German and Belgian market.

HERE is where I bought mine in Belgium in 2001.
and some other links:

Another serious Belgian independant

Mobile (german advert. paper)

I don't know this one...

Good luck in your search!

Hello David,

I share Toga's opinion.

There are many differences between ROW and North American Porsches. For instance, all Euro 993's have OBDI diagnostic system whereas the NA ones have OBDII.

There may also be a problem with the glass around the car. Imagine changing all the glass?? The windshield is EXPENSIVE.

I would not consider such a purchase.

I found mine at Mobile.de through the Porsche network... also talk to herr Schmidt at H & S in Telgte Germany.

Good luck

What an interesting change of events. When I was in my 20’s I was amazed at how much my dollar bought when I was in Europe (1997 and it was ~$1 = 2 Guilder). Nowadays, it’s almost 1Euro = $2 dollars. No wonder it’s less expensive to import a German car from the US than to try to buy one there!
But I digress, David benvenuto.
