I just installed mine last night. I went with the set recommended by CarreraX (referenced above) I got the 5000K...seems to look fine, with a hint of blue (reminds me of BMW xenons). The install was easy, and consider that I am an electrical retard. I printed the photos from this thread and it was a snap. I used all bullet type connectors so it can be reversed (if these turn out to be unreliable). I did not have to use a dremel or mod the housing in any way. I wrestled with the bulb retaining spring for a few minutes, but wedged it in there pretty good. I have the larger ballasts...it was a tight fit, but it all worked out.

Thanks!
Doug

Thanks all!

I wil need to work our shipping / import tax to see which is best - US or UK.

Andy - were you able to fit the aceparts ballasts inside the headlamps / how much modding was needed?

Hi Tim

No mods necessary. It's a tight fit to get the ballast and wiring in the bucket so a little patience is required.

You'll need a "bullet" connector, or similar for each side. See post # 57 on this thread.

Take your time; get the correct connector and tools and you'll be able to do this easily.

The guy at Ace Parts (Guernsey, UK) owns a 993TT and knows his onions.

I'd suggest that for an extra £10 you opt for the upgraded sidelights. I haven't fitted them yet but the car looks very odd with the OEM sidelights

Sorry to bring this thread back to life but I have a question about the filing of the opening for the HID bulb.
I'm finally at the point of installing the HID kit (DistantXtremes) and I just wonder how you guys that had to file the opening manage to keep the filings out of the projector beam reflector? I can stuff it with some cloth but I don't want to loose it in there. What did you guys do?
Thanks,
Hans

I held the headlight upside down (lense up) and let the filings drop down on the floor and away from the headlight. It was a bit of a pain, but there isn't that much filing to do, so it is manageable.

Do it like a dentist, take a small vacuum hose for your shop vac and evacuate the shavings as you file.

Hmmm - I just paid Vertex 229 for mine. Supposedly will come already made with hardware that has been modded to fit the 993. Did I get ripped??!?!?!

Put it this way. I bought the Pilot HD kit from pilothid.com for 189 and I got also purchased their 5 year warranty that includes bulb replacement for a total of 265. Did you get ripped off? Only you can say.

Hans - I held mine upside down, the vacuum technique sounds like it might work too. Great upgrade.

Hmm... I didn't have to file mine at all. It was a tight fit, but the bulbs went in without issue.

Good luck...

I had to file mine (XenonWorks kit). I just layed on my back with safety goggles and held it up so it would all fall out towards me. You shouldn't need to file that much out. I was REALLY nervous about doing it until I got in and did it and realized it was pretty straight forward and easy to do.

It's still alive. I used the Dremel. One of those sandpaper like drums was the perfect size for the job. Done in a second, no sweat. I don't know how I managed to live for so many years without a Dremel.

Great feedback guys!

I'll be trying all as mentioned - I have the dremel tool with the drum sander - on my back - goggles and holding the vacuum with my teeth..........

Thanks

So I have my slim ballast kit and plan on installing this weekend. Am I right in understanding that the brown ground wire no longer needs to be connected the the metal headlight housing and is ok just being attached to the new ballast via a bullet connector?
