Default Attaching New RS Side Skirts (Rocker Panels)

My body shop wants to use silicone to attach the RS type rocker panels. There has to be another way. The right side has to be removed to change the oil.

Besides the screws and nuts that attached under the car and in the wheel wells, is there anything else I should pass on to the body shop.

Chuck,
From the PET drawing, I'm not sure where one would use silicone. It appears that the RS sill uses the same tabs and plastic nuts as the standard sill, as well as a few more fasteners. Maybe the RS piece comes with some sort of foam strip that goes between it and the body? I would vote against silicone in this case.

No silicone..... There are only a few screws and clips. The real gut wrencher is the three holes that have to be drilled in the rear quarter panel , there is no template (or at least none that I could find, maybe one of the other Rennlisters found one), just lots of measuring, re-measuring, and measuring again. The rest is very straight forward.

You shouldn't have to remove the right side one to change oil. I don't.

The tabs on the skirt are easy to break. You'd never be able to remove it without breaking a few of them each time.

Chuck your body shop probably doesn't have the right parts. I posted pics of all the parts you need, in early 2005. There's a metal piece with three protruding screws that goes into your body (missing from the above diagram). No silicone needed. Now, if you don't want to drill those holes, then you might use silicone.

Also, like kim said you won't need to remove them ever. There's an access cover for draining oil.

Many thanks...

I checked for past postings for the part without any luck. If anyone knows the part number, please pass it on. TIA

All of the necessary parts except for 2 plastic fillers are in the pic that Andreas posted.

I posted the same info w/ parts list and the filler pieces here and here

You don't need to remove them to change oil. I would drill the 3 holes in each fender instead of tring to glue them on.

See here for that mounting plate:

Not sure about the part no. Perhaps it comes with the skirts or something.

My bad... I have Aerokit 1b side skirts... not RS. You would think that after buying them, taking them to the body shop and posting a question I would know what I have. My appologies to all. I have started a new posting regarding this. Oh well, not the first time I have embarrassed myself and it won't be the last. At least it is among friends.

Chuck,

Did you buy these new from Gert? If so, there should have been a tube of adhesive that came with the Aerokit skirts. I bought a set from him but never got around to installing them before I sold my car.

If you bought these used, perhaps you could email Gert and ask him what comes with the skirts when you buy them from the factory. IIRC, the instructions were in German and I couldn't understand any of it.

Good luck... your car will look even more amazing with these on than it already does. Good choice!!

I did got one from Gert and one locally...perhaps that is why I didn't get the adhesive or instructions. Thanks...
