Default Who wants 317bhp?

I did, so I removed the cats and had a live re-map and £400 later I have 317bhp......

I don't want to start a debate on dyno accuracy, but it does feel significantly faster. The guy who did the remap said this was the highest he had seen and would expect 300-305bhp off a good varioram (with cats). I did not get a baseline before I removed the cats, but it gave 290bhp with std mapping without the cats, which seems believable i.e. 6bhp up on std.
With std mapping there was a dip in the torque curve in the mid range, which backs up what others on the forum were saying about removing the cats. After the remap the mid range torque curve takes off from around 3.5k rpm and stays flat.

I'm very pleased. The engine feels like nature intended.....

How did you get it remapped? Is this a factory DME or an aftermarket? I have some cat-killing parts coming later this year and would like to know what else I can do to 'perk' it up a bit.

what gear did your run your dyno in? and did you correct for gearing?

also usually people talk about bhp when they do a dyno run on the engine.

was this a dyno (rear wheel hp)

Whether at the flywheel (FWHP) or at the rear wheels (RWHP), it is all measured in brake horsepower (bhp).

This was the factory ECU remapped. I believe it can only be done on OBD1 cars.

It was run in 6th gear i think and is corrected to flywheel horsepower from the rear wheel power of 280bhp.

That would be good since I have a '95 which should be ODB1. What year is the car that was remapped?

this sounds really interesting, Has your exhaust note changed at all? do you know how this setup would effect the MOT?

This kind of stuff makes us Americans really jealous, because there doesn't seem to be anybody in this entire country of 300,000,000 people who can live remap a 993.

Protomotive in Arkansas (using custom software), Cyntex in Pennsylvania (using Jim Conforti's software). For the OBD1 993 there should be a few others.

David,

Yes the exhaust note has changed. It is a little noisier at idle and has a nice growl/rasp at WOT. No resonance problems. Get the odd pop on the over run.

Yes it will affect emissions and the MOT in the UK. I've kept my old cat to put back on if I can't find a 'friendly' MOT test centre.....

Nick.
