Who wants 317bhp?

nbooth660,
Did you have "cross-over" cat replacement pipes fitted to your 993 or the standard layout with cat bypass pipes ?
Certainly, crossovers should go nicely over 300bhp on a good motor with mapping/fuel octane to suite.
Real time remapping was a technique being used in the UK way before 993 introduction in 1994 ! Amazing that it is so rare in the USA.
All the best
Geoff

As I understand it the gentleman who did my remap is the chap who does the std engine spec remaps for 9M (he now has his own rolling road) so has a wealth of experience of these engines. Other people in the UK have experience of him rectifying common varioram/ resonsnce flap problems as well as identifying misplaced ignition leads (common fault from many OPCs apparently...).
I have the std cat case with the cat cores removed so I guess it's a very large bore std system.
I was told today that he can remap the Turbo4, GT2, 996, Boxster as well as all OBD11 993s.
He is getting pressure from the BMW owners club to get over to the States so is already thinking about a trip..... if someone wants to put a proposal together to cover his costs of a 993 'group remap' he is willing to consider it.......

When you've worked behind the scenes in helping to map/calibrate OEM ECUs the list of people you trust to do your own becomes significantly less.
I would love to have the hardware to be able to map my own car myself- I know EXACTLY where I'd start and how!
It's much easier to remap a car for power increases and even fuel economy increases while also meeting TUV/MOT/AIR-Cares then what the manufacturers have to do, to try to get them through Euro 3s,4s and 5s!

I don't know how open he is to a round the world 'remap tour', but when I mentioned the States trip he just wanted his costs covered.
If someone could put a proposal together (based on flying from Manchester airport preferably) and see what he says. To give you an idea he mapped two 993s in one day when mine was done. Having said that he takes whatever time is needed to get the job done correctly; mine took about 3 hours as there were no problems, where as I know others have taken over 6 hours.
If one person then contacts him with the proposal he can work through it with you.
Nick.

I saw we sponsor him to do a NorEast mapping, then SoEast, Midwest and finally SW US and finally NW US. Plus imagine all the FF miles he'd have racked up!
I say..
Boston
Atlanta
St. Louis
SanFran, maybe HellA
Portland (or Seattle)

Another possibility might be for this English fellow to teach a few well respected people over here how he does it.
( He could meet them all in Miami for the course because it is warm down here for another six months and Finn and I and a few other South Floridians can sacrifice for the greater good and have them do our cars first real nice and slowly.)
Orrr, I suppose someone from here could go over there to learn.

It appears no one on this forum has had experience of live remapping other than in the UK. If these tuners offer 993 tuning how come no one has done it?
Maybe you guys are a victim of your country's size and diversity preventing this capability from being exploited???
Seems a shame.....

So what you are saying is that you need to hook someone up in the UK with a decent dyno shop plus possibly some equipment and software. Seems like a no-brainer business proposition to put to one of the Porsche or tuner shop specialists. What about the ricer community? Surely they do this?

David
