If you have a factory head unit, it's unlikley to have the pre-out that you will need. Some subwoofers have a high level input, meraning you can use say the rear speaker wires to run the sub, but then you have no rear speakers. Pointless really.
What you need is another head unit with preouts. Then buy the Clarion underseat subwoofer (Alpine is better IMO) and away you go.
Still basically a waste of time

geolab,
What would the cost be for you to purchase a blaupunkt odsb 5000 and ship it to the US.
I have tried the US Blaupunkt dealer and they do not carry this model. It's only available in the UK.
I've only seen one sold on ebay and the seller would not ship to the US.

Default wiring

it is possible to add a subwoofer to the factory headunit. The alpine, blaupunkt, infinity and pioneer units all have speaker level inputs and you won't lose the use of the rear speakers.

The subwoofers are usually designed with a high impedance so it can be wired in parallel with existing speakers.

I fitted an infinity basslink to my saab 9-5. The saab stereo was reasonable with six speakers but very little bass. With the sub, the sound is great and all existing speakers still work well. With the sub wired up, I have the stereo fairly flat - i.e no bass or treble added. I can then control the bass with the wired remote for the sub. The sub is wired in parallel across the rear 2 speakers. I guess you will get a better sound with a new head unit with RCA sub woofer output (like the alpine unit I have in the Porker) - but for a relatively cheap upgrade and a big improvement in sound, wiring across existing speakers worked well for me in the saab.

I'm going to go for the Alpine unit in the porsche I think......

here is one who ships:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Blaupunkt-ODsb-5...QQcmdZViewItem

There seems to be a slimmer model 120W slightly larger and a bit longer.
blaupunkt THB 200A
Shipping should be $30 ish. If you want one from a shop, I will send it to you and you can Paypal me once you receive it.

This was in a earlier 993 thread and someone put one of these under the passenger seat and had no fitment problems. Hope this helps.

Heres what a dumbass I am:

When I bot my car I immediately upgraded the h/u and speakers all around, then added an Infinity powered sub behind the rear seat- in part for the 1500 mile drive home.

Sounded pretty good but diminshing returns for the investment.

THEN I put on X-pipes and have sport mufflers coming. Talk about working at cross purposes!
When in traffic or equiv. its sounds fine- after that I might as well have not bothered.
Especially as I drive with the windows down and sunroof open almost all the time.

yep - as long as you choose a subwoofer with high level inputs mentioned by GEO, you'll be able to add to your factory head unit. The sub will have very high impedance so it can be wired in parallel with existing speakers and not affect their performance.

I put an infinity sub in my saab 9-5 with the factory head unit. connected in parallel across rear speakers. Getting a great sound!!

Just make sure sub has high level inputs - certainly the pioneer and blaupunkt do..

How do you mount these thin subs under the seat? Is there velcro, or a strap?

Call Becker Service directly at 201-961-1300. I just ordered a CDR-220 (refurb w/ warr.) from them yesterday, I bet they would have the T.P. too.

I am interested in adding a sub as well and with your help I was able to track down a US dealer, Continental Imports for the Blaupunkt Sub, model number is VSB-120 with a price of $235.50.

Here is a link to their site; https://www.continentalimports.com/cms_265.html

I don’t know anything about them so this is not an endorsement. If anyone knows them, please let us know.

Thanks,
