OK ********,what's the bet?

And BTW, it's Shirley Haywood...

BTW, out of all seriousness, what is the ring time for a stock 993 c2. The time for a 2000 Boxster S was 8.32 min. Now I am curious about my assumption, not that it matters anyway.

Why don't we bet a good cigar and whiskey or wine? so long as the winner buys the second round!

You're assumption (especially that non "S" Boxster stuff) sucks.

993 C2 time at the ring is 8:28.
And obviously the tyres on that C2 weren't as good as what Boxster S had.

But hey, this is Miami so I always have some Cohibas (and Green Label) around, so when you're down here next time, let's share some cigars, Schotch and BS more about our cars!

OK, I lost but the times are close enough to make my point that no 993 owner -- or 996/997 for that matter -- should turn their noses up at a Boxster if they really understand Porsches and Porsche history . . . mmmm Cayman S mmmmm, so the first round is on me, and I actually do make it down to Miami now and again

The Boxster (986) S is pretty close to the 993 on the track, in my experience. Boxster can carry a little more speed through slow to medium speed corners (like carousel and T17), braking I'd call about even, slight power edge to 993, both very easy to drive at the limit. So the 993 is a little quicker around the track, but the 986S is fairly close - until of course, the Boxster falls apart. Just my experience

******** here no question

What I love about the poor chip on the shoulder 996 crowd is their belief that the 996 was lighter weight than the 993.

Yes Porsche quoted that 1320kg DIN weight, But Porsche had begun to get into some nasty habits with the advent of the water pumpers, all the tests showed differently.

German mag Sport Auto who weigh all the test cars (in the same way) tested the 996 C2 Coupe 2X 300hp cars which averaged 1401kg
3 X 320hp cars which averaged 1455kg

The same mag tested 5 993 C2s which averaged out at 1385kg

Its all here:http://www.einszweidrei.de/

Funny, I never hear the 996 crowd bragging about 996s being lighter than 993s. I only hear them talking about the advances in the suspension, ease of maintenance, low cost of replacement engines, and that really nifty secret and hidden cappucino machine built into the dash just below the cup holders. I hear them bitching about weight, RMS, and lack of dry sump (but I have never seen an oil problem with the 996s on the track). The Boxster Ss and normally aspirated 993s are pretty close on the track, but the 993 is no competition for the 996, just like my 996 is no competition for the 997.

I agree. And I think Boxster is pretty cool (it ain't 911 though) and I really like Cayman! Hey, they're built in Finland so that makes me like them even better!

Hey now! Boxsters and now Caymans are built in Valmet factory in Finland and quality compared to 911s built in Germany are the same, if not better.

Not the 993 quality though, if they only had built Porsches in Finland back then...

I'm pretty curious about the Boxster fleet's future...they depreciate really fast and Porsche parts are not cheap (not even from dismantlers)...due to the massive quantity made, I don't believe there's anyone out there holding some example as collectible or subject to restoration. Except for a few units for track use, the Boxster's market is moving mostly by the "poser on a budget" (please no offense intended...I'm just generalizing). I think pretty soon, when these cars start to ask for more consistent maintenance, they will drop to the below $10K level and quickly join the 924s, 944s and 928s...

Why am I talking Boxster here? This is a ******** thread!!!
