Post New Porsche Attitude - this seems to say it all...

Browsing the Suncoast site to find something to spend my PCA $100 certificate on, I came across this high dollar Porsche Toolkit in "Luxury case with debossed Porsche logotype" :

<a href="http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code=95504400001&Category_C ode=WS" target="_blank">Tool Kit</a>

What got me was the disclaimer: "The tools are meant for recreational use only. They are not for vehicle repair."

So I guess it is a play toolkit for the poseurs that Porsche seems to be marketing so hard to these days...

New Porsche disclaimer:

The 996 is for recreational use only. They are not for track use.

Good find, Chip. "Quality" tools you can't use for car repair for only $190. Do they limit how many unusable tool kits you can buy at that low price? What's recreational use for tools anyway?

BTW, I get a catalog called "Hard to Find Tools." They're right about that; it's hard to find tools in there. Most of the stuff in the catalog are decorative gismos.

Are you sure that this is in fact manufactured by Porsche, and not just a kit being sold as 'suitable for Porsche'?

Maybe the dealer doesn't want to be selling tools that you can use to service your own car. Competes with his service dept.

Even the toolkit that comes in every 911 doesn't have tools manufactured by Porsche. But to be able to put the Porsche name on the toolkit, they have to have permission from the company, which I see as an implicit endorsement. Particularly since Porsche has been so aggressive about "protecting" their good name in the past.

Jeez, give 'em a break. You might get them dirty if you use them to fix a car...

I'm wondering what recreational use there is for tools, other than fixing cars.

in defense of the 996 i have to admit that it is quite a good track hound. in fact with prices so low it makes sense to get a 996 and dedicate it for track use.

tools for recreation! the and buyers must be really lonely.....

Mike,

How do you stop the oil surge on track days, and stop the water temp light coming on? Here in the UK the 996 is recognised as having these problems on more cars than they should. The GT2, 996 shape, was brought out as a track day/street racer to overcome these problems (dry sump?) Not looking to stir up 993 V 996 arguments but have you guys over there had similar problems?

PJC
