Default Fix for light bulb clip retainer??

My passenger side headlight went out and I thought I just needed a new bulb. Turns out the clip was not holding it in place, it was realigned and later went out again. Now I can't find the actual clip (must have fallen out when I removed it) but it seems the problem is the bent clip retainer.

Has anyone seen this before and come up with a fix? Mechanic & Dealer both recommend a salvage yard for whole new assembly - otherwise a new assembly is several hundred dollars.

Any advice appreciated. TIA.

Wow. Kim, that was a way better response than expected. Rennlist never stops to amaze me. What a great board!

I did this update shortly after I got my 993. I think the kit was around $5 for both lights.

Sorry for the stupid question but ....... do I just take the TSB# to the dealer and buy/order the kit? That easy?

If you can take your headlights out of the car you can do this fix. I just did it...worked like a charm. The only trick is to figure out which way to put the new retaining bracket that replaces the deformed old plastic mount for the hold-down clip. If you look at the new retaining bracket, it has on one side a longer tab that has a hook on it...that it the side that goes to the inside toward the bulb. Put the stainless steel spring clip on and push the new retaining bracket on to hold down the clip. When the retaining bracket is fully on the hook on the little tab will lock under the body of the bulb mount so it does not work its way off. Make sure this get hooked or else it will get loose eventually. One side worked easily, the other side I had to take some pliers and sweeze the deformed mount a bit so the new bracket would slip over it.

I paid about $6 CDN to do both headlights...gotta be one of the cheapest exits I have ever made buying Porsche parts!

I was going to post a DYI for this but my bulbs were falling out and I did it so quickly I did not get a chance to pull out the camera. I can take a shot of the light with the clip on it if that will help anyone.

Cheers,

Mike

Sorry if I missed it in the TSB, but does this pertain to all years of 993s?

Mike- Pictures are always welcomed.

Thanks Guys, my lights are both like that but they have not let go yet. I had no idea that this would be such a common thing.

I will try to get the kit from Porsche tomorrow and do the fix.

I'm going to buy the parts this weekend when I get a chance to swing by the Dealer.

Mike - I'll take you up on the offer to post a picture. Sounds extremely simple but a picture is always nice. Thx guys for all the help.

I picked up my parts at the Dealer yesterday - about $6 for each headlight. As mentioned above by Mike J, they snap over the existing distorted spring latch. I took a pic - I'll attach it when I can locate my flash card.

First, thanks to Mike J for detailed instruction.
Here is the picture of the new retaining bracket in place.

The part number for the fix kit is #000 043 204 28

Jason,

Thanks for the pic and the part #. Sigh.. one more item to put on the short list... which is getting pretty long.

Yes, it is strange that Kim's posts have disappeared in this thread.
