Question on the fix kit... does it cover 2 headlights or do I need to order 2 kits to do both headlights?

One kit per headlight. In a kit is a clip that attaches itself to the body of a headlight and a new retaining spring for the bulb.

SWEEEEET!!! I was looking at this same problem and thinking that it must have to do with the fact that I installed a HID kit and the elevated temps had distorted the seat for the spring clip!! I'm stoked that there is a fix for this issue.. phew! Nice post!

The HID lights will actually conduct less heat to the bulb mount. Probably happened with the original bulbs.

I used my little hobby torch to heat up and re-form the clip retainer. That worked like magic. I now use HID's, and they do not get as warm as the original halogen bulbs.
But the new clip fix illustrated above is best when using halogen's.

All done, a simple fix but I did find the clip did not fit till I straightened the diecast body slightly then it was a breeze.

I would have used a mini torch to heat it if I had one but it was not essential.

Wow thanks everyone for the help here and with great pics too. I didn't even fully understand what was being talked about at the beginning then I started thinking and realized that when I did the HID upgrade at DEVEK many of us had run into spring wire fit issues. We all made it but I had to bend mine a bit to get it to fit. My mental note to get a new one just in case had gone the way of most mental notes until this thread. Now I know what to do, how to do it, where to get it and how much it cost. Is there some thing that you guys don't offer here on Rennlist?

Just stumbled across this thread using the search. I just did an HID upgrade and was surprised to find my low beam bulb held in with a different clip than all the other 993s. It turns out that this was the factory upgrade you installed! It made the most difficult part of the HID install a snap. Thanks

Just a side note, I just pried the mis-shaped piece off to intall the retainer. It'll make the install much easier. Its magnesium and breaks off quite easily.

So what is the secret to getting the damn clip on? I cannot get it to fit for the life of me in spite of the very helpful photo showing how it is supposed to fit.
Update: I managed to barely get the clip to snap on the existing bracket, but it does not look like a solid fit that will last over bumps. I take it no one else has had any long term problems with this inelegant solution?

I used the existing wire clip, bending it to compensate for the deformation of the plastic part of the retainer. It was twisted to the right side, so I bent the left side of the wire clip down. That worked.

I just used a bit of stainless steel wire and needlenose pliers. Nice and tight.

I am resurrecting this old thread for a couple of reasons. One is to show what a moron I am and two is to get some help. I have the upgraded clip kit and it still does not work well. Is the new bracket supposed to be clipped on firmly to the headlight first and then the bent wire is placed on second? And is the bracket supposed to fit tightly on, because mine does not. This is why I do very little work on my car--I suck at it.
