Duty is correct plus $395 brokerage. Some states mandate an odometer change from KMs to Miles. That's it...

I'm an avid enthusiast, and not a dealer. Does anybody have any first hand experience on the costs associated with a US buyer of a Canadian car? For my education on helping international interest.

I took this from a recent BaT ad, where the car was Canadian:

"We recommend a budget of approx. 2.85% for duty and $1k-ish USD for incidentals, plus the cost of shipping to your destination for American buyers. Keep in mind your own state tax may apply.

Canadian buyers, budget the cost of shipping plus applicable sale tax(es) for your home province where the car will be titled. Please note this car is exempt from the Federal Luxury Tax (Canada)."
I bought my 993 NB in Winniepeg, from a dealer. I paid the Manitoba sales tax which I know is a moot point since you are a private seller. I trailered the car home and when I went through customs. Paid the 2.5% fee. They will need two forms (DOT HS7 and EPA 3520-1) which customs will fill out for the importing party (they did for me at least). Ensure they have a bill of sale as this was my biggest hassle at the Department of Motor vehicles since they need to see how much I paid in equivalent US dollars for the car. Also, when they arrive at the border, the inspecting agent will look for two plates on the car. The first one on the door that shows the date of manufacture of the vehicle and the second is the placard that is in the engine bay when you open the rear deck lid of the car. It took me about 1 hour to go through and we were on our way.

I went to get the car myself as this was during the trucker blockade which caused shipping rates to skyrocket. I spend far less on gas and other than losing a few days of sleep on the road, this was relatively painless.
Any questions feel free to PM me.

Amazing, thank you Onami and Astro_Train.

Would you gents be okay with my copying your responses into my for sale thread? Might help potential buyers.

Of course! I'd recommend that a potential US buyer talk to TFX International for a transportation quote. They move all of my vehicles for me and handle all paperwork etc.

NB and WB side by side “in the rear” and it’s apparent. Many “posers” add the front Turbo Bumper, Front Lip, and even rockers…. To the untrained eye it’s difficult to tell. Rear Tire size is a giveaway… WB stock are 285’s.

The NB and WB differences are seen in the rear fender width, and flaired out sideskirts (NB is rolled in)

Welp … always a sucker born each day in the car biz for sure ..but congrats nonetheless

Dang, I guess I am a sucker! LOL, I bought the car from Tarek and could not be more happy.

Look forward from learning from this community.

posers? I guess C4S and C2S owners with Turbo wings are posers too..

The WB cars do come better off the factory and the rear fenders are definitely nicer but to call NB owners that add the nicer front bumpers posers is a bit toolish.. I will say the screw on rear fenders do look tacky but to each his own.

Lol. He has a wide body elitist thing. I was waiting for someone to point out that every NA wide body is a turbo wannabe/poseur. Some of the show, none of the go...

my point exactly. Now more than ever it is tough to justify the cost for a WB 993 when compared to a NB given they add zero performance spice. Some sell for close to what a "cheap" turbo goes for which at the point may as well go big or go home.. Turbo all the way the way I see it.

C4S had a check box for Aero Kit II from the factory or Turbo S Aero Kit.

Disagree. You apparently have zero clue. C4S is AWD, bigger brakes, standard LSD, better suspension and so on… The C2S no it’s just a NB in a WB shell. WB cars have always brought the money as far far fewer were produced as opposed to the NB cars which were plentiful.

I had “have” the money (sunk over $70k into my C4S and have all receipts to prove it) to buy a Turbo and opted not to and prefer the Naturally Aspirated exhaust sound over the muffled Turbo sound. Turbo performance is just different. WB curves are much sexier regardless. So good try hoss…
