I have a 96 C4S and a 97 C2 and would be happy to serve as a beta tester. Can run trials on both cars. I spend hours each week playing with my cars so this would fit right into my 'normal' activities.....

This pertains to the thread about the new fix for the immobilizer.https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...mobilizer.html
I was fortunate to live close to Jay777 so I volunteered to be a test car on my 95' 993. I really appreciate the work Jay has put into this and after watching him do the quick install (less than 15 minutes I was so impressed with the result. Just cutting the correct wire, splicing and hooking up the cable with the device into the OBD port was a piece of cake. Now the great part it worked like magic. Amazing how he came up with the answer! Now if I want the immobilizer disabled I just leave the unit in place and viola no more pushing key fob buttons cursing etc. If I happen to go to a place where I would like to have the immobilizer active just unplug it form the OBD port back to stock. The cable can be easily placed behind the carpet or under the seat when reoved. For cars with black interiors or dark interiors you would never know its there. It could not be more simple than that. With what we spend or add to our cars this is a no brainer.Jay you should be anointed for 993 sainthood for this .

Thought I'd chime in too. Can't say too much due to normal new product development secrecy. But Jay has a good one on his hands here.
I believe I'm the first person to self-install the Demob. Was lucky enough to be Jay's beta tester for '98 cars. I think he and I learned a few good lessons that will make self-install easy for the first wave of his customers. FWIW - I have limited automotive technical know-how. I don't do my own brakes or oil but I was able to do the Demob install. And felt confident taking it on after I understood the process. My guess is most everyone who wants the mod will be comfortable with the process.
It does what its supposed to - I can leave the car unlocked and then fire it up w/o any use of the fob. For those of you with a garage, this is pretty great. Also I road trip with my 993 regularly so this eliminates a point of failure. And as promised, it's as easy as removing the OBD portion to return the immobilizer to normal operation.
I'm expecting Jay will have high demand for the part. Great for him and the Community.

Many thanks Dave (sdm100) and Tim (Tstafford) for their willingness to test a prototype and for the comments and feedback provided. Thanks also to the others that offered. Dave's 95, my 97 and Tim's 98, pretty much confirm the demobilizer will work in all 993's in that MY range. I had originally planned to test a 96 as well, but ended up using that unit in another 993 just down the road from Dave's last week. It was a heavily-modded race car (gutted interior, roll bars, racing seat, crazy loud, etc.,) - not a car I would normally have chosen to use my last unit on but what the heck? (Funny that with everything removed from the car to save weight the immobilizer had to stay). Anyway, with no carpet to deal with install took all of 5 minutes - and it worked fine. Owner was happy - apparently the immobilizer is even more of a nuisance at track events.
Regarding further beta testing...I'm looking for a volunteer with a Tip to test - any year will do (late 95 on). I don't expect any problems but the wiring is slightly different in Tips so want to test. I'll either make another prototype or send my own unit out. PM if interested.
