Good progress..... it now looks like the demobilizer will be a 15 minute DIY that won’t require any mods to the immobilizer (no need to remove seat). Skill level: 1 out of 5. Tools: pliers. Draft PCB will be installed this weekend for additional testing.

Does the demobilizer completely bypass the immobilizer? Would it allow a car to run that otherwise had a failed immobilizer?

After being stranded 2 years ago in my TTS (thank the lord the car was parked at work), I have been looking for a solution. Tonight I couldn't get into my 4S and I was reminded how annoying this can be. I screamed and yelled and got the 2nd key and we we're cool. Going to buy new batteries tomorrow.

No and probably not.

The immobilizer only has two functions: “Drive Block” and remote lock/unlock. The demobilizer disables drive block without affecting the FOBs.
Considering the myriad ways electronics can fail it’s unrealistic to expect the demob to offer blanket protection against all unknowns. That would be a much more complicated device for sure.

Just to clarify, the Demobilizer only affects Drive Block. A dead FOB will still leave you stranded.

Only because you're locked out, right?

When the immobilizer is unlocked via the fob, it does two things. It unlocks the Motronic ECU (Drive Block?), and it asserts the Unprime signal pto the Alarm Module which causes the doors to unlock.

When the fob is used to lock the car, the immobilizer locks out the Motronic ECU, and it also asserts the Prime signal which tells the Alarm Module to lock the doors.
