That would be a great solution for my build
The 996/997 GT3/turbo gearbox fits perfectly as they still have the same housing as the 993. The difference is the cable shifting, no more shifting rod. Here you need to make some space for the cables. There are two ways to do so. I shortened the housing by 15mm (~1/2 inch), which needs also to shorten the shaft and needs a spacer for the starter motor. The other way, which my friend here did, is that you cut out a little section of the chassis at the end of the tunnel; works both!

Re rear windows; if you refer to the makrolon windows, they are from https://www.plastics4performance.com...ts/porsche/993

Hi at present I have a 993 5 speed box with a CAE shifter, this is great, would I still be able to use this or is it cables not a rod?
Difficult to find a 993 6 speed so a 996/997 gt3 box a lot easier to find.
Do you have any pics you can share of installation.
Did you also regear the 996 gt3 box?
Thx for info

As I had to convert from Tiptronic, i was looking for a 993 gearbox, but thanks partially to Singer, nearly nowhere to find or totally overprized. A re-geared 996/7 gearbox therefor was a much 'cheaper' alternative. Even all the regearing we did (R&P, gears, steel syncros and 80/80 Dif) it cost little more than half of an unknown 993 gearbox ...
As said installation was pretty much straight forward. You need a custom made main bracket for both possible kinds of installation, the cables and a cable shifter. Rest is common work.

shortened housing and shaft

starter spacer

Installed

Will ask my friend if he has pictures from the needed chassis cut out on his swapp

Here we go ...

He kept the cables in the tunnel and uses a Numeric shifter.

On my car the cables getting out of the tunnel towards the CAE shifter. The 996/7 CAE does not fit into the tunnel!

Hi great info

Will any 996/997 box work or does it have to be a GT3?
This could work would need a new CAE shifter as already have that could then sell the 993 box and CAE shifter.
Do you have specs of the mounting bracket looks great.
Here's my cae shifter

Was planning on handbrake delete to remote switch so cables will work OK
Did you also go for a 4l engine

It has to be a GT2/3 or turbo gearbox, they were the only 996/7 still using the 'Metzger' housing.
As you can see, no real need to delete the handbrake. And here the would not register it anymore without original handbrake.
