Ramadan started and the season is going to an end. Temperatures are rising again above 40 deg C ...
So what to do?
Ok, first a little beautyfcation job ...
but now we have to get serious ...
Found a 996 GT3 gearbox already
First job is to determine the gear ratio; did my own tables based on the very helpful tables from Bill V. (thanks for that Bill)
Than i added the in and out turn speed for the 2 available tracks here. Played with ratios, shifting point based on the VBox records from the tracks and than checked for actual available ratios.
So far we think the following is right now the most suitable gearing.

As i gathered more data at the Yas circuit in Abu Dhabi, i was wondering about my lap times ... about 2 sec below my times with the old engine.!?
Than i compared the data from my vbox and got a little surprise. As i was as expected faster in the straights, i lost much time in the bends...
When we build the new engine, we decided to switch to a electrical power steering pump. In the built i thought, lets try without as 'normal driving' is ok, and why not shad another 2-3kg of weight, but man that's a different game on the track ...
As the work was much harder, i didn't considered that i lost that much time through the steering.
Now, that will hopefully change now, as i quickly put in the electrical pump...

So after long discussions what exactly and how, Christian Treiber built the new box in his shop, shipped it over and came last weekend to put it in.

Thanks
Actually it is a mix of 996 GT3 and turbo housing with a mix of 996/997 cup and Guard gears. the housing had to be shortened by 15mm, adjusted shaft and spacer for the starter and a custom made mount. CAE shifter and the rest stock.
As it has also now LWF, RS clutch, steel syncros and a 80/80 differential lock, it makes terrible noise :P. But its a track car by purpose, so its acceptable. The CAE shifter is a blast. All in all nearly 40kg less weight!
Fun factor increased for sure, but lets see what the stopwatch is showing on the track.
Love the custom mount!

I just spotted this on your Instagram story today and thought "wait, wasn't this car a Tiptronic? Why don't I recall a post about swapping the transmission?"
So, I came here to see if you ever posted about it. Perhaps most folks overlooked it... Not only was the Tiptronic transmission swapped out, this has a custom gearbox + CAE sequential shifter (cable operated). Truly impressive!
Have you gotten it out on the track with the new setup? Hopefully no kinks to work out and it's providing added smiles over the tiptronic.

Brian,
as expected, a sure increase in the fun section, but what I didn't expected is the drastic change in attitude of the car. I know very well the slight difference between tiptronic and manual for a stock car, so i had my expectations here ,,, but the combination of the power increased engine with the modified gearbox is actually insane ...
It got very clear that the tiptronic wasn't able to forward the additional power to the wheels as expected. It seems the torque converter just eat most of the additional input ...
Now with modified gearbox, LFW and the diff lock, the car transformed to a little monster
As I have to adjust my driving to the manual now (more work and right now a little distraction from driving), lap times increased already more than a seconds without even pushing.
For clarification, the shifter is a normal CAE shifter for 996/997 with H shift pattern, its unfortunately not a sequential gearbox ...
but still incredible short and exact in shifting!!

Ah, thanks for clarifying it is not sequential. I saw the cables in the photo on instagram and someone else had made a comment about sequential.
Still an amazing project. And now you get to reap the benefits of that big motor.

As it was planned, last month Christian Treiber came back to Dubai to bring the engine to its now usable, full potential!
We installed a complete new intake segment with ITPs and a carbon intake module. Further the cams got another upgrade and finally the engine became a EMU Classic ECU.
Christian at work
Some parts for renewal
The ITPs and the management system
The intake and the vacuum distribution
The ECU from EMU, hidden in the old Motronic box
We added also a nice little Oil fetch tank for the crankcase vent
These pics documents more or less the technical part

Oh wow thats epic... it must be amazing on track!
Interested to know more about that transmission... it's a GT3 case or turbo? or are they the same?

Thanks
just check here

Just learned recently that it is possible to install the gearbox complete without shortening the bellhousing, but on advice of my engine guru, its better if shortened.
