Default Windshield squeak repair

I had a glass out repaint a couple years ago and ever since my windshield is squeaking

i know now this is a common issue

when the body shop removed the windshield they unknowingly clipped the antenna wire so they supplied a new one

however can it actually be removed in tact and reinstalled? Are there any tricks or recommendations to doing it right?

Where are you located? I've recently learned of a very competent guy to do windshield replacements in CT.

Are you asking as to how to get rid of the squeaking?

Why do you ask?

Well I guess I’d like to pull the glass and see if it can be reinstalled without the tendency to squeak

it did t squeak prior to the paint job

The glass is held in with a very strong adhesive as unlike earlier 911 the windshield is a structural part of the car.
I suspect what is squeaking is the outside or inside finish gaskets.
I would think there are two schools of thought on a solution:

1: lubricate the gaskets so they slip when the body flexes without squeaking
or
2, Glue them down so they can't move at all using a bit of adhesive.

I haven't read older posts in detail on this subject as to root cause so take my views above with a grain of salt.
Also found this on the subject: Squeaky Windshield
My view is that the gutter under the outer gasket needs to be filled with adhesive anyway to avoid moisture being trapped under it causing corrosion so I went the glue rout on the outside.
I have never had to do anything on the inside.

Call Raymond Auto Body in St. Paul. It has been the Porsche - Audi, Mercedes, BMW high-end "go to" collision repair and glass replacement shop on this side of the Metro since the 1960's.

Courtney Truck Service (Yes, they are an aircooled Porsche repair shop) put me in touch with their guy. CTS is located in Eden Prairie but installer came to my house on the south side of Minneapolis and did a great job installing replacement windshield. It’s been over a year and no squeaks or wind noise at any speed up to <REDACTED> mph.

I need a respray. May I ask who you used?

Squeaking windshield is a VERY common issue. There's a couple threads out here on it- Go to a bicycle shop and get a bottle of Ice Wax- it's a chain oil that gets waxy over time and keeps dirt from sticking to the chain. You can squirt it under the black trimming on the windshield and the squeaking will stop. I do this every spring and no noise.

For a respray, I had my car's front end resprayed 3 years ago at Collision Center in Golden Valley. They did a good job. Raymonds is also highly recommended in the TC area.

Btw on the squeak or creaking of your windshield I just tried this spring Wurth HHS Plus based on a response on the PCA web sight. I have not heard the creak but once briefly the other evening. I have been driving my 993 quite a bit this spring.

Before I went to all the time and hassle of pulling the windscreen for the known squeak, I'd try the cheap and known fix first, the rope:

I replaced the windshield seal and that resolved my squeaking. It hardens and the felt dries up under the lip which rubs against the bodywork.

It's a bit of PITA to replace, but I think it's a good preventative maintenance thing to do - you can clean out the gutters and put some wax there. Took me about an hour.

Any pics or tutorial on this??? I'd love to try this.
