3 spoke steering wheel
I'm thinking of changing the steering wheel to an OEM 3 spoke. One of the retailers said that it will not fit properly on the early MY95 as per Porsche bulletin.
I tried searching the archives, Robin's and E.J.'s pages but came up empty handed. Does anybody know anything about this?

I believe the 996 3-spoke steering wheel is OEM.

When I started looking for mine, I first checked with a dealer......$900+ for the steering wheel, and $300+ for the airbag. Ouch. That was for the airbag with the colored crest, which is more expensive but much better looking. A good discount from my dealer parts guy resulted in a price of $978 for both, but I thought that was still too much......
Supposedly it's an easy install....less than an hour of labor at your mechanic......

I got mine from Schatz Motorsports, but most any aftermarket supplier can get one for you. The CF version is about $1,500, but the all leather is considerably less. Installation should be no more than 1 hr. shop labor, it only takes about 20 minutes.

Timz,
As in my post below (too good to be true?) there is an advertisement from a shop in florida on internet, www.auto99.com, stating the price for their 3spoke steering wheel with air bag is 380$. That was too good to be true as I spoke to them on the phone yesterday and the price he quoted is 600.00. The excuse was that the web page is under construcion yada, yada, yada. Still not bad considering used ones go for >500$. He also said they are available in black, grey and tan / tip or standard.
I assume that this is leather with leatherette over the steering wheel and a silver crest (equivalent to the one in the fvd catalogue selling for about 900$).
Their phone # is on the web page. Who knows, if there is enough of us, we may try for a group discount.
Hopefully the car will come out of hibernation in 2 weeks.
Cheers

Yeah, my dealer parts guy can get the silver crest one for me for $630. However, I want the painted crest steering wheel. I would join in on a group purchase for the painted one, but we've GOT to find a source better than $930 per wheel!

Gert, or some "part info aware" person please help here....
There seems to be some confusion about 3-spoke steering wheels, and parts numbers, and prices.
The "basic black " 3-spoke wheel and airbag CAN come as a package ( 000-044-400-18-8yr )
The Aibag Modules come in Leather and Letherette. Then each can have a Silver or A painted Crest..
The 3-spoke can be basic Black and only the rim is leather covered OR the entire assembly is leather covered.. as it is with the Wood or Carbon vesions.
If someone can put together a chart of the part numbers and combo's it may help clear up confussion.. Do not worry about the color codes..
BTW: Here is a price quote I got:
"" 3, 3 splke wheel leather list- $423.80, your cost $385.63, Air bag list $275.37"
and another: "" 000-044-400-18-8yr is $656.17 "

That's what I was told, too. It's apparently very easy to miss by a few tooths, and unless you happened to get vey lucky, you will need an alignment if you want your wheel perfectly straight.
