Default Warranty up before the 4 year mark

Hey everyone

I took my car in Friday to have the engine checked because it wasn't driving the same. My service advisor mentioned my warranty was up Feb 2024.

I purchased this 992 back in Nov 2020 as a executive demo ( was listed under new cars) from a Porsche dealership. I was under the impression the warranty on a new car starts the day which you drive it off the lot. I contacted the dealership which I purchased the car from and they're telling me otherwise. They said once someone in the dealership drove it back in Feb 2020, the warranty on the car started.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I believe Porsche starts the warranty the first time it’s delivered to a retail customer or as a demonstrator. That’s also what their paperwork says.

it also depends on the manufacturer. I remember my dad buying a 3,000 mile Jaguar many years ago that was an executive demo and the warranty started the day he took delivery. The miles that have accrued already are counted as part of the 50,000 mile warranty.

Yep, it's a new car warranty and that warranty started when it was first put into service. This is why the CPO warranty exists.

The warranty started when that car was punched as a demo.

But then technically it shouldn't be sold as a NEW car on their website correct? If the warranty has already started and has miles on it.

Yes, but mistakes happen. It should have been in your paperwork when the warranty started and ended and you should have double checked that when you knew you were buying a demo.

On the lease agreement it's checked off as a NEW car and below is the warranties.

Three of my last four "new" Porsches were "punched", and that allows the dealer to discount them more AND get more allocations for their store. It's been going on for years and doesn't bother me a bit, saves me thousands for a few weeks or month missing on the warranty.

It should have been explained to you at time of purchase, My dealers did.

"New" car means the car has not been registered with DMV (motor vehicles).

The warranty is punched the day it goes into service, even as a demo. It’s stated in the warranty section of the manual.

It is most likely a clerical error, the dealer should be responsible to make it right if you were not made aware of this when you bought the car. Speak to the GM of the dealership and ask him/her to honor the warranty...If they refuse then report the to whatever state agency is responsible for handling complaints about car dealers.

That does now show that the vehicle was checked as "new"

Do you have another screenshot?

It starts when it's punched. Should have been in your paperwork at purchase and explained then. Any event, did they find an issue and what is the outcome? That's probably the more important question.
