Default With the disappointment of the 992.2 - what other cars are you considering?

I had a deposit down for 992.1 GTS and should have probably ordered one instead of waiting for 992.2. It was just past cutoff when Shark Blue can be ordered but should have went with GT Silver.

The new 992.2 cars for me really don’t offer any benefits but do have many things that I dislike which has been discussed. The whole push to digital, hybrid while significantly increasing pricing is just a huge turnoff.

Other cars that I’m considering include C8 Z06 (not crazy about styling), new AM Vantage (huge depreciation), Maserati MC20 (turbo V6).

Most likely will wait for new 992.2 T or hopefully rumors of a RWD 992.2 Turbo are true, although I suspect that car will be unattainable without significant ADM. I had the 991.2 T and it was a GREAT car but needs to be more special and I wasn’t as impressed with 992.1 T version.

Overall the 991 gen appeals much more to me having experienced both - but always wanted to custom order a new 911 to my dream spec. Sad to see the direction Porsche has decided to proceed with especially considering their past statements of preserving the 911 heritage as long as possible.

I'm in a similar boat. Turned down a GTS .1 allocation in anticipation of the .2. I personally don't mind the changes to the 992.2, but I can appreciate the concerns raised by others. I'm in wait/see mode until I drive it.

The pricing/allocation strategy is 'interesting' and appears be in line with that of many other luxury brands..Rolex, Hermes, Ferrari..etc... At current trajectory, 911's are increasingly becoming available to smaller and smaller income demographic vs 5 years ago.

As someone who declined a Z06 allocation recently I can tell you a highly spec'd C8 Z06 with Z07 and other options will net out to the same price as a well spec'd 992.2 C4 GTS in Canada. Not taking anything away from the Z06 and what GM has done with the car, but that is a lot of money for that product. I get the 'supercar' killer and appeal of the flat plane crank but it could be argued you are paying a $100k premium over a Z51 Stingray for an engine and aero. And if it's 0-60 launches and straight out speed your after, the 992.2 GTS will very likely outdo the Vette there as well as I doubt the Z06's ability to consistently put down strong numbers on a launch. I have a lot of love for Vette's, and can only speak for my market but the performance/cost ratio that has been a hallmark of Corvette is not as obvious as it used to be when you start getting higher in the model range. ZR1 is going to be mid $350+ here I would guess which is nipping into some impressive competition although GM's should always be cheaper to maintain!

I like that you get a wading pool with your C8:

Corvette sales in Canada have tanked since the last price increase and implementation of the lux tax. Almost weekly now a dealer posts a new Z06 at msrp that can be had immediately on the Canadian Corvette forum. Every member there thought that would never happen, but GM has over-priced the car for our market.

i jumped on a 992.1 allocation a few weeks ago because Porsche is starting to price the 911 out of my comfort zone. I figured that I better get into one now while I still felt that there was value in it for me.

i thought about alternatives, but there is nothing else new that I like enough. I’d probably find a mint low mile 991.2 if I didn’t make my 992.1 purchase.

There aren't really any new cars that can compete in the sub $200k range hence why Porsche is able to charge more and offer less.

My biggest gripe with the 992 is the lackluster engine/exhaust sound --- even the GT cars now sound mehhh. The new Mercedes AMG GT and the AM Vantage with their V8s could be interesting options but only in a couple of years once they've massively depreciated. I also have a hard time spending so much on a Porsche that seems quite run of the mill these days. It's one of the reasons, PTS colors are so in demand, bc people want something unique and a 'standard' Porsche (in any trim) is both ubiquitous and pedestrian at least in my area.

The Lotus Emira is good bang for the buck but Lotus reliability and service is suspect at best. The LC500 while being less capable is arguably a more engaging car and it'll last forever bc of Toyota reliability plus it's rarer... but my guess is Lexus is going to give it the axe any moment due to low sales despite recently updating the infotainment. I want a car that offers a raw driving experience but with modern tech.

So with all that said, I'm going to keep driving my 992.1 until my (hopefully PTS) 992.2 arrives.

You never know - the 992.2 could end up being an absolute unit. I'd wait to hear reviews and possibly drive one before deciding to move on.

Same. Excited for my .2 GTS as well. Wish the GTS NA rumors were true, but no issues with a mild hybrid honestly.

The New Vantage.

The reviews are off the charts and it has always been a beautiful car but these updates was what the Vantage needed.

Sure, depreciation sucks but you are also assuming that they will be making these for many years. They too- will have to eventually go electric.

The thing for me is my GTS is only a couple years old with 7500 miles, so maybe I will just drive her for the next 10 years. They are showing the new Vantage, at the end of June at a small event they are hosting, so lets see if it gets the juices flowing. My Brother-in-Law wants my GTS and is willing to pay cash for what ever the Market Value is so we will see.

People always get hung up on new car gen’s. Porsche will be just fine. While I don’t love all the changes the Base and GTS are intriguing for different reasons. The GTS for the obvious reason - quickly approaching Turbo terrifory in performance and the base for its potentials with the large turbos and intercoolers. I can see the base to become a hit once tuners unleash its potential.

When the reviews hit for the 992.2, they’re going to be glowing and the cars will be stupid fast.

If the new 992.2 isn’t doing it for you, there are a lot of great CPO cars out there. The 992.1 and the 991.2 are both entirely modern where it counts.

An Emira is a very different experience from owning a 911. There’s a fragility to the Lotus construction and build quality that you don’t have with a 911. The Emira is a big leap forward from the Evora, but it still very much is a Lotus.

I don’t think that anyone serious about a Porsche is cross shopping it against the C8. That’s not to say that the C8 isn’t a great car. It’s just a totally different vibe — like a burger vs a steak.

For me, personally, the 991.2 is the sweet spot right now — performance and character. Your tastes may vary. We’ll see what the 994 brings.

I agree with your sentiments.

The objective performance of the 992.2 GTS will be amazing - I’m pretty confident about that. It’s just the character of the car and the digital direction that is the issue.

The only attraction for me on the C8 Z06 is the NA V8 and also that you can remove roof panel, i never had a convertible or T top. I’m sure it helps hear the engine better. The styling, driving inputs and overall build quality - im sure is lacking compared to 911.

No interest in Emira but i have now started to consider the 718 Cayman / Boxster GTS. Wish they still made the GT4 / Spyder versions. Styling is great and interior is still the old tech that i prefer lol.

I think long term - the 991.2 cars will prove to be extremely sought after as they are smaller / lighter than 992 without the additional screens/tech but can also be modified to make more power.

they are also down in the states
I flirted with getting a Z06 few months ago , so my son did call few dealers , and the ADM was 2-10 k which I refused to pay . These were cars that people backed out and he got the usual , we can put you on a wait list , but it will be few years
fast forward till present time , he is getting calls all the time , we have a car no ADM , or we can get you an allocation
and one dealer offered couple of thousands off
finally , the cars that were late getting back to what I call the normal pre Covid market , are showing cracks of weakness and this most likely will accelerate

If anything, I'll keep my 992T forever and possibly add a GTS at a later date. Plan on buying a used Cayman and tracking it.
