The new engine sounds more like a muscle car and less like what I am used to in a 911

I provided a link to a written .2 C2 article above your post. I do not feel the differences between a .1 and .2 are that significant so the automotive press is not wasting a whole lot of time on initial impressions via video.

Savage Geese had some nice words to say about the Base. See towards the end of the video.

Not really a glowing review of the GTS from PCA:

SavageGeese confirmed (part) of the sound is coming from the back speakers.

Autocar also praised the base as their preference

"Having tried four variants of the new 911, it’s the the one carrying the fewest kilos, the Carrera, that I liked the most.

Any new 911 is still brilliant, and the GTS is a sensational performance in a straight line particularly, but for me, the sweet spot in the range has moved down a notch."

Good read. There are a lot of nice updates for the base 992 Carrera 992.2 from the 992.1

Are we sure about this? Porsche has always used sound tubes / other, more honest, methods of piping in sound. Not to be dramatic but this is very disappointing if true - leave that fake sound to lesser brands, please.

First thing I thought when I heard it. Not the classic flat 6 sound at all to me.
