Default Is the 992 and 991 Windshield the same??

Can anyone confirm or deny that the 992 and 991 Windshield the same??

My specific case is that I have a 992 GT3 with the lightweight glass.. I am on my 4th windshield. I actually drive my car(rallies and track days) and the lightweight glass is just too weak.

I am exploring moving into a polycarbonate front windshield like the GT3 Cup Car(from Porsche Motorsports this is a $3000 buy) which is about 300 times stronger than regular glass. I know there are some issues like the bezel that comes on the windshield to connect to the interior trim that houses the front facing camera/ rain sensor/ adaptive cruise these are however epoxied on so we are going to remove from the oem glass and place on the new one.... Then secondly doesn't have the built in antenna built into the windshield like the OEM one we will either have to do internal wire connected to interior of windshield or we will have to bury a wire on each side into the HPDE sealant when the windshield is installed either way i think we have a solution and worst case i don't have am/fm. I wouldn't cry over that!

So there are many options on the market for $600-$1000 for a polycarbonate race windshield for the 991. Side by side I am 90% sure the 991 and 992 windshield's are identical but wanted to know if anyone could confirm that? Orrrrr if anyone has another solution Ina ll ears.

Thanks in Advance,

Zane

Why not just put an Exosheild film on your windshield?

Why don’t you go to a standard laminated windshield? A lot less expensive and probably easier to source. Polycarbonate is tough, but it will scratch and chip as it is soft. And eventually it becomes brittle. On a race car probably not a big deal, but if this anything but a fun car it may not be the best option.

Its not less expensive actually. so if you include labor etc the windshield plus install for the oem windshield is $4700! So Id still use a pull off type screen protector like this to prtect from pitting but I can assure you with my issues thus far that pitting wont be worse than the oem windshield

of course it’s not the same. They are totally different platforms. I’m truly confused by this post.

a little explanation. So you’re not wrong. Yes whole new platform. However. It’s actually very common for the roof and window sections from one generation to the next in the 911 to actually flow over to the new generation. So don’t be too surprised. It’s like 80% new yes but still a Chance my hunch could be right and if you have the cars side by side if the windshields are different it’s like barely 2% change or something like this.

You have obviously bought more than one windshield. Why not just ask your supplier to look up the part numbers and see if they are the same??

you have to remember, Porsche is a business. From model to model they always change the part numbers. Even if the part is identical. I wish it were that easy. Surely someone out here has to know for sure one way or another.

I've owned both 991 and 992 generation 911s. The 992 is significantly wider up front and the windshield is a different shape as a result. You can tell just by sitting in it. There's not a single shared body panel between the two generations.

My OEM replacement (for a bad seal) was $2850, including calibration after.

I don't know about the 991 vs 992 windshield, but I am 99% sure (and soon to confirm myself) that the 992 non-lightweight windshield will fit where the lightweight windshield fit. In my case it's a 992 GT3 RS - I cracked my lightweight glass windshield, and I am replacing it with a non-lightweight glass version. Full thread here:
