Default Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

I had the original Pirellis changed today because of a rear flat tire and needed both rears done, so I just bit the bullet and had all 4 tires changed to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in Porsche Spec.

Drove about 70 miles after the new tires were mounted and I must say that there is a huge difference (all positive) between the Michelins and Pirellis.

Obviously, the Pirellis had 8000 miles on them, some hard, and were the original set, but the PS4S tires are so much more compliant, a bit quieter, and I think they look better. They have a larger tread contact patch by about .5 inch and they just look meatier.

Very pleased with my decision and the service folks at the dealership feel the Michelins are the best choice for the 911 for the street compared to Pirelli, Goodyear, or Continental.

I've had MPS4S on various other cars and they have always performed well.
I lost the gamble on my GTS as it came with P Zeros.
I've had them on a few other cars as well and dislike them.
Look forward to an excuse to fit MPS4S to the GTS

The PS4s have been out a while. When will the PS5s become available?

My T came with the Pirelli's on the stock wheels but I had a set of HRE's with PS4's waiting.

I've changed them back and forth a few times and agree with your comments. I find them a lot quieter, more confidence inspiring and agree they look better.

I have them on my S7 and they’re the best rubber I’ve ever driven on. My T arrives in April and fingers crossed they come fitted with PS4S

Pilot Sport S5 (yes - S5, not 5S) debuted on the Aston DB12 last year. Not sure what's taking so long for it to become available in a variety of sizes, but it wouldn't surprise me if Porsche announces an N-spec PSS5 alongside the 992.2 some time this year.

I spoke to Michelin about it a couple of months ago as I needed tyres on a 675LT.
They advised no immediate plans for MPS5S despite releasing MPS5. They also advised MPS4S are a better performance tyre than MPS5.
So I bought a new set of MPS4S. They have been great for me on several cars, so I'm not sure they will improve on them with a MPS5S.

Still waiting for my GTS delivery, I only drove a GTS with PS4S on track at Franciacorta PEC and was amused - but I didn't get if the car made the PS4S shine or the other way around...

I had PS4S on my current 8 series bimmer and they were not inspiring confidence to me. I then changed to Continental SportContact 7 and found out a much better grip, expecially lateral grip at the front. They are noisier compared to PS4S by a tiny margin. I never tried Pirellis nor Goodyears.

Great tire. Glad you made the switch.

Another bonus of the PS4S: none of the front wheel hopping at lock (which always made me cringe).

Curious why you would come to that certainty. It would not seem to make sense to me for them to release a successor model that was not an improvement. Do you think that the MPS4S is the best tire that will ever be developed form now until the end of history?

That’s interesting about Michelin MPS5S. Tire rack doesn’t have 4s in turbo size available. Stuck with either Perelli or Goodyear.

Seems to be some confusion here. Michelin has already announced the PSS5 (again - S5, not 5S), which is the successor to the PS4S. This is different from the Pilot Sport 5, which is a less aggressive summer tire. https://www.tire-reviews.com/Article...-5-is-here.htm
As I mentioned, Aston Martin is already using the PSS5 on the new DB12: https://www.popsci.com/technology/as...in-db12-drive/

What we're waiting on is for Michelin and Porsche to get together and design and release the N-spec PSS5 in 911 sizes. There's no way to know when that will happen, but it seems reasonable to think it will come alongside the 992.2.

All I can say is from my conversation with Michelin a couple of months ago they aren't planning on replacing the MPS4S.
That implies the MPSS5 is not a successor to the MPS4S.
I guess time will tell.
In the meantime the MPS4S will remain my go to tyre until reviews and experience show otherwise.

You already have your excuse. You dislike them. Upgrade and be happy. 😊
