Default Steering column question

I recently took delivery of a 911 Targa 4S (model year 2024). While investigating why my comfort access feature stopped working, I came across this note from Porsche in 2022:

My 2024 911 has the same manually adjustable steering column described above, and I never got an email from Porsche or notification from my dealer. Has anyone else had this happen on a recent 911 delivery?

When I ordered my 2023 my S/A informed me that there would be no electrically adjustable steering column included with any comfort access. Build date was 12/2022. No biggie for me as I am the only driver so I set it once and have not moved it since.

I'm pretty sure most people that have come on RL before their delivery were aware of this as it's been discussed.

When it was first taken away before an announcement people got $500 porsche bucks, IIRC. Its been indefinitely taken off and I doubt they're going to ever include it again as headquarters has realized they can get away with it. This is just pure speculation from a pessimistic personality.

I got lucky, I received a check for $1000 on my 2021 Carrera S for the steering column issue.

While Porsche gets away with it, Ford steps up...

Initially I thought nothing of it, since I was coming from a 2016 BMW M4 which also had a manual steering column. It was only once I realized that the comfort access feature had lost 50% of its functionality that I got upset. At a minimum this should have been explained to me by my dealer.

Well you aren't going to miss much unless you have two drivers that have different set-ups that you wanted to keep in memory. I never noticed it move much if at all like the seat will for vehicle comfort entry and exit. My 22 amazingly enough was delivered with it when others were not... I set it once and never touched it again.

Really disappointed. I was expecting this feature, especially for the price of the car.

I often adjust the steering wheel slightly in the winter to accommodate different coats of varying thicknesses and lengths that I wear on different days.

The electric column retracts when you turn the car off, and extends to the memory position when you start it. Personally that's more of a benefit than dealing with multiple drivers. It's also handy if you save multiple seating positions, as I do. One for round town, one for the track, and one for cruising.

I would disagree. With the steering column not moving forward when comfort access is triggered, and the seat motion not increased in the reverse direction, very restricted entry is the result. I’ve even noticed some wear on the sear bolster piping.
So button #2 is programmed for exit and entry, and yes, you have to hold it to completion. Buttons 1 & 3 for driving positions.
And I am 6’1 and 195.

Cruise positon?

*I didn't want to, but it was taking me too long to find an image with a driver in another ethnicity.

You never got an email or notice because it’s in the fine print when you selected your 18 or 14 way seats. They took out the electronic steering column line item in the list of features.

I don't want to put words in the OP's mouth but it sounds like he didn't know the electric steering column was not included until he found the thread on RL and now feels cheated, as would I at first. And apparently, as shrimp money noted, it is no longer part of the memory package or any other package. But, If you didn't get it, your vehicle is not somehow a neutered vehicle compared to others.

I think you missed the point. No manual has this feature. What planet did you come from?

I think the lack of an electric steering column sucks. I have sport seat plus in my 992 so never had that option but on my 2024 Taycan with 14 way seats, it also has a manual steering column and that car 100% can benefit from the electronically adjustable steering column because it's a bit of a PITA to get in and out of compared to the 992. We are now almost 4 yrs past the beginning of the pandemic and supply chain issues seem to have resolved for most things. I think its ludicrous that people buying $150K to $200K+ Porsches still can't get an electrically adjustable steering column.
