992.2 order - week 8?
#91
The truth though now is I am very puzzled. I have the option to get one of the last 991.1 gts 4 targa or wait for the 992.2. The problem is I have been informed about the exact bhp of the 992.2 s/gts e-hybrid and the 992.2 base will simply not make sense - and I do not care much about bhp but in this case it will be a different car.
Not a life inportant decision at any angle but since I like to keep my cars an important one

I am not wishing the e-hybrid was not coming. I was just mentioning that it should be an option like it is on cayenne.
I am not that much against hybrid but I still beleive we are at early staged and service wise we are not there yet. I do own a 24 cayenne e-hybrid though.
Regarding the 992.2 my thinking was the following: I am 45 and we will be driving e-hybrids and full electric cars for the rest of our lives. So it is a good idea and makes sense to me to get one of the last ice only 911s in 4s or 4s gts and keep it “forever” as I did with my 997 4s cabrio.

There’s no way I’m trading my I/C Manual box beauty for a hybrid.

Here is an interesting video of Corvette's Eray. If GM can do a hybrid (along with Honda NSX, P1, Porsche 918). The 911 Hybrid might be as good or better than the current 911s. I am sure, that there will be a 30+k Porsche Tax for that and most probably only on the S and above trims or only on the turbo series (who knows!).
Porsche might hit it out of the park or maybe get it all wrong. Time will tell, but hybrid 911 are coming. 992.2 or not, will know in few months.

If they make the S a hybrid and tack on an appreciable price increase, people are going to shift their orders to the Base - which will then be even more impossible to get an allocation for. Making this market for this car even more difficult to navigate.

I’m expecting a layout like this - e-power to the front axle and ICE/Turbo layout to the rear. Might help reduce weight adds, gives opportunity to manage weight distribution, and you can quote high HP numbers. I make this last statement as I’m not convinced that for a given claimed output, eHP + iceHP is the same feeling as the same iceHP alone if that makes sense. Just a worry I have, even though torque should be up.

It is not an if at this stage. 992.2 S and GTS are hybrids and both with 500+ bhps. And base is ICE powered only.
This is at launch. I do not know in a few months after launch if they will release other versions that are ICE only - eg S and GTS ice only and so on.

Why would any Porsche fan and driving enthusiast ever want anything else. The perfect all rounder.

I think there are those willing to pay the increased prices on a new car, but they're not willing to pay a premium on used like they were before. So just because they're willing to pay more for a new car (increased msrp), doesn't mean used prices will rise synonymously. I typed out a lot of words just to agree with you, that it's difficult to navigate this market.

Answer on the Targa question is...they are heavy. And lots of weight up top. Not optimal. It is a sacrifice on performance. Now that's a car to me that needs more power. To me a hybrid makes more sense in that car.

I would expect a bigger increase in HP this round of refresh if cars go hybrid to make up for the increase in weight. However traditionaly don’t expect base of the refresh gen to be more powerful than the S of the pre refresh. Porsche usually doesn’t hop HP across model lines between adjacent generations. If you are looking for a manual there is NO reason to wait and take a risk.

992.2 GTS will do 540bhp. No idea about weight.

Silversurfer: Can you confirm that the 992.2 Carrera S and GTS will be hybrid? Who confirmed this?
If so, this is not good news. I believe 992.2 Turbo S will be hybrid and most likely 4,000 pounds and even a higher MSRP.
