Ive thought about that, or even an E60 M5 (V10). But I always worry about reliability of older BMW’s

Looking for a weekend sports car consider a Viper. A reliable V10 and fun as hell. Plan on keeping mine forever.

Vipers are truly bad ***.

My only criticism, no offense to the owner, is the sound. It’s basically a Ram engine stuck into a car, and sounds the part.

Sorry, I’ve become somewhat of a sound snob with my sports cars

If I got a Viper, it would have to be a side exhaust with OEM wheels. I wonder if it sounds different. I agree with you though - sound matters. A lot.

But man, look at that thing (ignoring that cornball DeMuro ). That’s as exotic as anything made.

I have a nice little scar on my leg from that side exhaust lol.

SWEET. I've been looking at them lately. What years do you think are the best in terms of value, performance, affordability in terms of longevity and reliability?

Any known issues with specific years? Years to avoid? Thanks in advance.

Any good sources of information as I begin my search?

I’m on the list for a 911 Turbo S. May take 18 months or so.

What about the upcoming Mercedes AMG GT redesign while waiting for 911 Turbo S? Surely more exciting than a 718 Cayman S? Don’t even know if a Cayman allocation is still available.

Don’t want another BMW. Currently have a M2 CS. New M2 and new IDrive 8 disgusts me.

Another option is to try to get a 911 Carrera S or Carrera T while waiting for a 911 Turbo S.

Given the dismal dealer we have/had in this State (3 in the past 10 years) and the total lack of support from PCNA, I'm looking for something that will never again involve a dealer or manufacturer. Will be looking back to my youth and a nice muscle/project car like a 71 'Cuda 383/426/440, 68-72 Roadrunner, 67 GTO Judge, 68 Camaro RS...

Customer loyalty is fickle, mine has run out.

I'm reminded by past experience with this salesman that he really doesn't have a great memory but I'm still amazed. I'm more disappointed than pissed. Nothing that happens at car dealerships surprises me anymore. I'm suppose I'm even more miffed due to this salesman telling me that I would get some preference on a 992 allocation due to my purchasing the new Cayenne.

I had hoped to get the 911 delivered before my wife's 75th birthday in May. It would have been her daily driver ... more like her weekly driver ... for what little driving she does ...I've done nationwide searches of available new 911's and haven't found anything close to what I would have ordered which would have been very highly optioned with safety and convenience features including InnoDrive, Active Lane Keeping, Night Vision Assist, Park Assist and Surround View. Everything she drives "must" be white and have a glass roof. The 992 I had spec'ed out with this salesman would have been a hair under $140K not including a $2K ADM.

There just doesn't seem to be anything else that compares with the 911 in format, size and features. My wife doesn't do very well with large vehicles. The 992's dimensions are in the sweet spot she can handle and it is slightly smaller than her current car.

Rats!
I think he denied you the car because of your age. Let's be realistic: They do not give you an allocation to thank you for past purchases. They favor you because past purchases correlate well with FUTURE purchases: but not so much for a customer in their mid seventies. Just not a good investment for them. Better to make a 45 year old loyal customer.

Why so much hate on 911?

Who cares what "others" thinks - which should be better or worse - than what you like.
Do you also live by lists and/or journalist/self-proclaimed subject internet Karens of where you should live, what clothes to wear, or what you should eat?

This is one of the biggest drawbacks with the internet these days...

This said, I hope you find love in your future BMW/AUDI/_______ (fill in the blank) and internet sites that tell you, that you bought the right car :-)

Me for one, do not seek other peoples opinion on what I should think - give it a try.

I was looking to add a GT3RS (997.2) and happily chose these two over getting one. I consider both great alternatives though neither is available new anymore. Mind you I still have my manual 997.2 C4S…
