Sports Cars Instead Of A 911...

The AMG cars are just insanely heavy, and the BMW M cars are getting there. Anything that gets over 3500/3600 pounds limits the overall driving experience, I don't care how powerful the engine is.
Other manufacturers don't want to compete in this segment - Corvette sales dominate, Porsche is there, no one else really wants to make an affordable sports car for the "mass" market. Manufacturers like Lotus can't produce enough cars to have any meaningful impact in the market. Other makers like Alfa would rather produce $250K+ halo supercar competitors.

You're going to think I'm crazy, but... M2 Competition
I've been banging the drum about this car for a bit and for good reason. It's definitely a sports car - performance on the track is awesome. I was passing Corvettes and I'm terrible. Good power, excellent handling, surprisingly good steering feel (at least with optional M performance coilovers and M performance wheels). It's a nimble car that's fun to drive and has compact dimensions. The performance limits are high and it's easy to manipulate on the edge of traction. The rear end lets go in a predictable way and you can really thread the needle. Real sports car stuff. It's also available in a manual.

I think I'm getting these articles to cancel my T order and buy something else but I don't think there's anything appealing on the list for me. Maybe M3 (instead of M8) but thats not even on the list.
Why so much hate on 911?

GT cars - plenty to choose
- MB SL or AMG GT
- Aston Martin Vantage
- Jaguar Ftype
- BMW M4, M8
- C8 Corvette
Sports Cars
- Cayman/Boxster
- Supra
- 86/BRZ
- Z06
Super Cars
- 720S
- 296 GTB
- Huracan
I recently picked up a Mach 1 with the Tremec manual and its amazing car.
I don’t think you can find a perfect sports car but its very hard to beat a 911 for everything it provides.

Other than the 718 GTS4.0 on that list, all the other cars have significant weaknesses which is why they just can't compare. Whether it's weight, reliability, or cost, 911 is in a fairly unique spot. As for the M2, I think you'd be tired of it pretty quickly. Fun for going in a straight line and sure it can handle well enough, but I don't think it's as confidence inspiring as a 718/911. Great size though, which is why I also like the 718.

I will ditch all my Porsches for the new Ford GT. I will be happy with a manual Lotus Emira. Nothing else on my radar.

I've got a Ferrari Roma on order to be my next daily driver... checks a lot of boxes for me. Bit pricier than 992 but given f-car orders happen at MSRP ends up being very competitive price-wise with where high spec 992s were selling. Bit more unique vs 911 which is as common as a camry in LA. Different driving experience than a 911, not to say its better or worse, ferrari's just have a different feel to them which I think I'll like as a daily driver but would hate at a track (irrelevant as my DD will not see any track time). I adore the 992 platform but got frustrated with local porsche dealer attitudes and finallly saw the Roma in the flesh and realized despite not being the most photegenic car, in person its a beauty and the interior can be specced amazingly. I'll probably still pick up a Targa as soon as 992.2 is available.

Forgot about Lotus but mostly because of the no dealer anywhere in driving distance. Porsche has a fairly strong dealer network - I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere and can be at one of 4 dealers in less than 90 minutes. That adds value for me.

Caveat - this is in reference to the F87. I can't vouch for the newest one.
Yes the Carrera is an overall more refined and precise sports car, but I don't think it's necessarily more fun. Of course, the 911 is sexier and has much higher cachet. It is a status symbol in a way that the M2 can't come close to matching. So it really depends on your priorities, and I don't judge if someone wants a 911 just for the simple fact that it's a 911.

I really don’t like G87. I think F87 will be a future classic. In few years when prices are down, I’ll get F87 again as a daily beater.
FWIW, got a blackwing 6spd. Still trying to guage.

When I became impatient thinking my car was never going to arrive (eventually took 2 years), I saw a Z06 ad and was like wow! Saw the price and it was a double wow!
Then I remembered what I actually wanted and why and it wasn't a Z06.
The 992, IMHO is the best looking, best spec'd, and best performing 911 ever. Granted I've only got 2 others to compare it with, but the interior and rear of the 992 sold the car to me as being simply gorgeous. I knew if I took a leap to the Z06 I would constantly have the never ending urge of a 911. I'd simply pine and pine until I sold the Z06 and got back behind the wheel of a Porsche.
I did mention this lapse on here in an alternate forum and people mentioned build quality and a few other concerns which just reinforced my original decision.
In a nutshell I don't think there is another supercar (maybe LaFerrari) that I would swap my car for. No hate here for the 911, just love, love, and more love.

My Mclaren dealer told me that orders have closed for the 720s.
Some cars on this list are going away shortly like the Acura NSX and Audi R8. Plus can’t believe someone would choose a Lexus LC or BMW M8 over a 911 variant. M8 has had mediocre sales.

So much hate for the 911? Certainly not reflected in percentage of 911’s made and still on the roads or in collections. Also not reflected in resale value.
