If the new 992.2 does infact come out with a Safari package, alot of folks myself included will be trading in their current 992 for one. A influx in the pre-owned market could cause a drop in pre-owned prices and ADM.

Definitely doubt it will make any difference with demand! I still cannot figure out why people would need to use a 911 for off roading. The quest for 1 vehicle to do it all is a fools one (I know from experience ) Much better to get a purpose built vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Ram 1500 Rebel, F150 Raptor etc!) But that is just me. Just ground clearance alone is a huge factor.

A lot of folks trade in for Safari pkg?? No they won’t. If that is offered, will be a very niche market option.

I definitely agree. This Dakar probably makes most sense for packed gravel and sand dunes but such a small niche market. It’s really targeted for unban dwellers driving something that looks cool. Sort of like driving sports cars with all season tires. Me personally if I wanted an off-road vehicle, I would look for short wheelbase and high entry/exit angles such as a wrangler or bronco. Forget the full size pickups, wheelbase too long for tight maneuvers.

Default 911 Dakar spotted in Monaco

By coincidence I came across this 911 Dakar while the topic is being discussed here ().

The Safari package will not be affect demand. 99% of people don’t buy a 911 that looks like a Subaru Outback.

Exactly, the Dakar, like many other pointless toys is merely a vehicle for signaling of wealth. Marketing depts & designers realised many years ago that if they create an ugly, useless, pointless vehicle made in low quantities that is exclusive then rich people will pay ridiculous amounts of dollar to get hold of one. The uglier and more pointless the better. It’s all about demonstrating to their peers just how much money they can afford to carelessly flick at such extravagant useless frippery.

I'm definitely not looking for a one vehicle to do it all. I already own a Bronco, F-150 Raptor and Z car. My 992 Carrera Coupe is at the port and I'm currently waiting for a Cabriolet allocation. The Safari would take the place of my 992 Coupe.

People who buy Dakar are not looking for a vehicle that does it all. However, if Porsche does indeed bring the Dakar to its regular lineup, people who buy them are buying the brand. They're not using it for hardcore off-roading. From a business perspective, it keeps buyers who would want some rough road capabilities within the brand. That is the goal of a major automaker nowadays, build a portfolio lineup that enables customers to keep buying your product and keep it in the "family".

“something” for just about “anyone” who can afford it. Which is why there are so many 911 variants.
