992.1 vs 992.2

The rear for me has kept me away from the 992 completely. It’s such an odd ball design. I’ve seen some mules where the right/left taillights are preserved but they’ve covered the middle light bar and the rear end flows much, much better. That light bar was 100% VW Group pushing for homogenous design language across Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen to marry the brands together. It was a bad idea. Anyway, it’s opinion and the 992 it’s still a remarkable car. And I’m really fond of the new Dakar. I’d take that car in a heartbeat.
Anyway, a few pics of the original tach that never came about and a photo that really illustrates the UFO 🛸 rear end.

I personally absolutely love the light bar. Watching a 992 light bar float away at night is wet dream fuel.

I like the 992.1 as it is, and I really don't want a hybrid engine.
The only thing I might regret is if there is a major upgrade on the PCM, and the very very outside chance of no manual on the S.

It all depends on how long you are willing to wait.
I just received an allocation for '23 C2S after waiting 11 months. Car should be delivered by March.
Was not willing to risk waiting for a .2 car.
.2 release is probably not too far away, but then how many people are already waiting? What will allocations be like?
Could be waiting for a delivery until 2024.

THIS is the correct answer bar none. All the rest of the answers here are based on speculation: hybrid? re-design? instrument cluster? C'mon, all those responses are mostly speculation no? Maybe the correct poll would be "Who wouldn't take a 992.1 allocation in order to wait another year or so to get an unknown 992?"
If you want a GTS or T…expect to tack on a few years.
If you have an allocation - take it. Enjoy the car and if you love what they do with the 992.2, trade it in. Doesn’t have to be that complicated.

The mixed analog/digital dash had good intentions but it looks a bit clunky. It makes sense to go all digital and it’s the lesser of two evils IMO. Also, the retro dial just doesn’t do much for me, but I’m a really big fan of the original tach (think G series) was carried for so many years. They had originally designed it that way but somehow it came out looking a little contrived.

Porsche has a track record of consistently improving their cars. The .2 model will undoubtedly be a better overall car, potentially limited by progressive regulations and things that are pushing Porsche away from what they’ve been producing… ie. hybrid drivetrains, gas particulate filters, maybe more. Some people will love the changes (well, maybe not the GPF) and some will think it is straying from the car that God and Ferdinand intended. I’d bet the 992.2 will be an excellent car. I will enjoy the hell out of my 992.1 nonetheless.

I just hope they can make the exhaust sound like a sports car.
