Self melting windshield moulding?
Hello everyone!I am a Porsche owner from Chinese mainland. The problem of windshield rubber strip meltingIt is also very common in Chinese mainland. There are many 911 car owners here who have the same problems as me.Porsche dealers in Chinese mainland will provide replacement services free of charge during the warranty period.I consulted the maintenance engineer in China. They say this problem will appear in almost every 911.Also, they have replaced many windshields. The engineer said that after the replacement, he had not received any feedback on the recurrence of the problem.I saw this problem in 992 from 2020 to 2023 in China.I'm also worried that the same problem will happen again after I replace it.I'm going to change it tomorrow. Please wish me luck.
Had mine done and they did a great job with the exception of not cleaning the inside of the glass. It is a huge pain and impossible in some corners to get the glass clean. Oh well.

Talked with a Porsche Gold Technician and he said this is very common and he suggested not to replace it as the issue is superficial. He suggest I wait until Porsche comes up with a better seal to address the issue - currently, it is the same compound so even if you replace, it will come back eventually.

I got it replaced, and why not? It's covered under the warranty, the ooze looks awful, and you get a new windshield.
Bigger question: how/why would this ever happen on any car, let alone a $150k one?

The tech is correct regarding the seal of the windshield even though the gasket turns into a tar-ish consistency
Problem with leaving it as is would be for those of use that like to wash our cars
When you try and clean the front/rear windshield or wipe down the paint, the hoop gets all over the towels, paint, and hands…tricky stuff to clean and on towels, it won’t wash off
It’s been happening since the 991 generation, but 992 is happening faster
As some have mentioned, it’s not something that happens widespread, but frequent enough that Porsche should solve it with a better material/design

This should help - apparently it's not the seal, but the original windshield adhesive (so the problem shouldn't come back)

I had both front and rear glass replaced last week at my dealer on my 992 C2. The third party shop damaged some interior trims and left a dirty mess, but no more melted windshield seal. Not sure it's a win or just trading one problem for another...
