992s Driven Year Round in the Snow, Mud and Rain
#61
I stopped driving other, low clearance cars I’ve had, in heavy snow…after getting “hung up” in a snow rut one Winter.
In the 992 - Rain? OK. Light snow? Still OK. But ice or heavy snow, not OK. IMO. But everyone has their own comfort level.

I may just be thick, but are you saying your wheels haven’t been cleaned in five months?

My 992 C4S is my daily driver. I don’t currently have a garage because I was told it would cost the same as the car, and since I only had enough money for one of those things I bought the car. I went for a 4 hour drive the other morning through southern Vermont which was dramatically better than 4 hours in a garage, so I’m still happy with that decision. Also, I think those test drivers testing north of the arctic circle did me good and the car can probably handle the Berkshires.
Dolomite Silver hides the dirt well, but I did put 20K miles on it in the first year. My wife and I drove it to California and back last fall and put 11k miles on it in just over 8 weeks. I would recommend trying that, it was very fun.
All packed and ready to drive across the country
Plenty of room

See, this is exactly what my wife and I want to do (if I ever get an allocation for a Targa 4S). We want to take some long distance trips to see parts of the United States where we have never been. What I would like to know is what items are a must to take with you on a long distance trip. For example, I plan on taking a bucket and car wash detergent to wash off bugs, etc., and probably some tools. What do you (or anyone else) recommend to take with you on these long distance trips?

Spent 3 weeks in Scotland this past September. Mostly in the highlands. Wonderful country. had a great time.

Cross Country camping in a 911???? D@mn that. My idea of camping is when room service shuts down for the night at the Hyatt and I have to order a pizza. That's when I think, "Ooh, I'm camping."

Spare tire, if unable plenty of tire sealant, spare quart of oil and leave the cleaning supplies home for those trips to the mall. My winter accessories in my Touareg:
Flares, spare tire, come-alongs, blankets, power battery bank, complete mechanic tool box, spare belt, breaker bar, rifle... no space for all that in the 992 so remote trips (I mean remote trips) are not really practical as mostly no cell coverage and unless in a caravan unsafe.
