Default New car rattles

I have a few persistent buzzes and rattle from the dash and door areas of my new 4 GTS.

I've given it about two weeks and 1,000 miles to settle down but no luck, still the same noises.

Any specific advice or should I just hand it over to a local Porsche service center to evaluate?

I worry about them dismantling the instrument binnacle and dash and creating more issues.

I hate a rattle and when I was running in I noticed a few. Nothing major but not what I wanted on my new car. Now I’m out of that run in period I’m having so much fun in the car I’m not noticing any rattles. With the same desire as you to avoid the dealer taking things apart, you might find it pays to give it another thousand miles and see if it still bothers you.

I have had rattles in all my 911s.

My 992 had rattles from the moment I got it and only got worse over time.
I didn’t want to have the car in the dealership because I am not too confident they won’t make things worse and they will have my car for days or weeks.

So, I have been fixing all rattles on my own with some padding material.
So far I have fixed:
- Rattles around the interior handle of both doors
- Rattle on the steering column
- Rattle under the AC levers where there is a Sirius radio box that is metallic and was buzzing. I had to take apart the whole center console to do that.

Finally my car is great with no rattles!
Let’s hope it stays that way…

If you can locate them by pressing things while you can hear them, most are easy to fix so I would give that a try.

Good call! I took mine in for a door rattle and they only made things worse by breaking the plastic tabs on the door card. I have been waiting for 9 months for the parts along with my second key. I have several rattles and buzzes, but the door rattle is constant at all times. Every passenger tries to push on the spot to stop it. Very annoying!

Our 992 has a number of rattles and an annoying wind whistle that seems to come from the passenger side mirror.

Like others here, I am hesitant to have the dealership try to fix as they could end up making it worse.

All in all the 992 is an amazing car, but the rattles are a bit disappointing from a build quality perspective.

I can't handle rattles-I don't have my 992 yet but my BMW 650 Gran Coupe's passenger seat rattles when hitting expansion joints or road irregularities. Drives me nuts. Have to recline the seat back far to dispense with the aggravation. No fix available, it's widely reported on the web boards.

When I did my first test drive (after buying used) with a Porsche Tech in the passenger seat, he told me my car has very few to no rattles...when I asked what he means with that statement he says most 992 coming into his shop have that "typical dashboard rattle".

The noise from my dashboard is a low frequency "buzz" mainly audible when the car is lugging from low speed and high gear around 2K RPM in traffic.

I'll usually drop down a few fears and try and "drive around" the noise and other sounds that can heard at other speeds.

Odd to do that but I'm more worried about having the dealership try and fix them, given some of the experiences you have all shared.

ask them to check the fake speaker above the window and side mirror controls. They fixed both sides on my 992 and made a huge difference with rattles. Of course once those were gone I heard new rattles. Get used to it

The rattles on my doors first seemed to be from that speaker area but then realized it was actually from the vertical handle (shown on the right of this picture).
Had to add padding on top, under and behind it to fix it.

After having the gas tank rattle for most of a year before threads on this forum helped me isolate and dealer fixed - all the other minor rattles on my 2020 are mostly inaudible. The big one put things in perspective.

My new GTS cab has zero rattles. For that matter, my '02 M5 doesn't either, amazingly.

I hate rattles. Got lucky.

My C2S doesn’t have any rattles either. Thankfully! My most recent M4 was rattle free as well.

My 991.2 cab... never had rattles. My new 992 Targa GTS with 650 miles is so-far-so-good.

Fixing rattles at your dealer is like asking them to fix bad brakes. If they can't find the problem they can make the horn louder.

I had an annoying passenger door rattle and a very mild dash rattle. I finally gave in and took it in for the door rattle. The dealer made it 90% better. I’m happy overall now. In the heat, it’s rattle free. In the cold, there are mild rattles. My M2 and M2 comp both had rattles and my wife’s X5M50i has an occasional door speaker area rattle. My F150 has a passenger door or seat rattle that just started after 6k miles and I can’t pinpoint it, but it’s not too bad. I’m starting to think all cars have rattles, just some people can’t hear them. Ha!
