Targa 4S: which color to get?! Help!
I just got a call from my local dealership about a Targa that I put in for late in 2021. I have a few weeks before the lock and I’m torn.
I know there’s been many conversations around color but I’m curious thoughts on a 4S.
I’ve been debating on black vs chalk vs aventurine.
I’ve always wanted chalk but I hear a lot of thoughts on how it doesn’t showcase the car well enough. Black is timeless and classic but will be tough to keep clean. Aventurine is the dark horse in this convo as it looks extremely sleek.
I’m planning to make this a forever car but you never know. I’m seeing a lot of differing material and data regarding greens in the resale market and that’s what is potentially holding me back from purchasing.
Any thoughts?

Have you owned black before? I would never own black again. “Hard to clean” is the understatement of the year.
For me?
I like the blue the best.
Adventure Green is second.
Chalk is third.
Red with black trim/wheels is passable
All other colors are off the table; to me they are tired. How many versions of grey do we need?

Go look at each color in person, and then decide for yourself.
Did you ask your buddies if your wife/girlfriend/mistress was hot enough before hooking up with them?

I had a chalk 19 4GTS and the excitement went away fairly quick. Doesn’t shin and looks like a crayon! I now have a black targa 4s. Not my pick but I have been happy with the color shows the car well. I hope the metallic black will be easier than black.

I debated between Chalk and Jet Black. Went with Jet Black for my 2022 Targa 4S, one of my first 911's (911 SC Targa) was similar with Basalt Black so in the end wanted to replicate that build.
I opted for full PPF and Ceramic Coating to ease in the never ending trying to keep it clean - as mentioned, black paint is a whole different level of dedication. I got mine in December, and it is much easier to do a quick wash with the PPF. This does ease the cleaning maintenance on a black car, about what other colors would give you without PPF - from looking bright and shiny without all the normal effort.

Of those three choices, AG all the way. The others are too plain in my opinion.

I went with Chalk and if I were to do it over I would 100% go with Aventurine Green. I think the metallic colours better show the lines of the 911 vs the more flat colours. Every time I go to a meet people say they love the colour of my car- but honestly it hasn’t grown on me at all.

Adventurine Green for the win (although, GT Silver is even better and TRULY classic if that matters to you). More importantly, please reconsider those boring black wheels. That ship has sailed - so many other choices.

Always liked green though, so fairly easy to chose Aventurine for this one. We considered Chalk/Agave but my wife didn’t like chalk when we saw a couple of cars in that color.
I think Chalk/Agave/black top in a Targa would be a rare bird.

I have the Chalk and I love it. Like AG, it does change a bit in the light from almost white to much darker. I have to admit that my color choice was a bit "inverse" for me. I know I wanted an interior color with more character and really like the Bordeaux/Black. Once I made that choice, the only external colors that went well with it (and that I liked) were Chalk and Agate and (maybe) silver. My last 5 cars were all either silver or very similar to Agate and I wanted to force myself into something new.
Color is a very personal choice. None of the 911 colors are "bad" in my opinion. While I might not have stated it the same way, I do agree with Ipse Dixit's sentiment. If you are indecisive, you are not likely to remedy that by asking us. It will likely only make it worse.

I went with aventurine green for my Targa…love the jet black but did not want another full time job. My last two were black.

There’s only one suitable color for such an elegant and distinctive car (see below). However, IMO, there are a number of colors that are a close 2nd place that you can’t go wrong with…colors that don’t exude a brashness that shout, “look at me, I’m having my midlife crisis” (leave those for the younger crowd, if you don’t qualify?).
That said, get what you want….or better yet, do what I did and ask your wife, gf, mistress, partner, etc what they like best…rather than a bunch of lemmings on Rennlist:
