I never wanted a car bad enough to pay a 20, 30, or 40% increased price just to earn the privilege to buy it. Growing up without wealth may have soured me on silly spending like this that will do nothing to increase the value of the car or ownership experience. But whoever wants to do this can go right ahead, since it’s their $’s.

My friend is one of those people, and he’ll be the first to admit his extremes. We are flying to PECATL in two weeks, and he picked economy on Delta where they pick your seat for you vs paying $20 more to pick your own seat.

Same. Also got an eventual allocation at MSRP. It will be a seriously long wait, but I’m ok with that. Would rather not participate in this speculative flippers market.

in this category, Porsche is like Toyota, relatively more reliable, looks ok, functional well and cost less, even with ADM

its just supply and demand. no different than anything else. rarely does a manufacturer price mean much.
if you bought a vintage car, its virtually guaranteed to cost more than it did new. what's the difference? that's inflation and demand.
if you go to a nice restaurant are you asking the manager how much they paid the meat distributor for your steak? or the 3X markup on wine?
no, because you've decided theres some value to you. its no different than someone getting a car first, or early, or at all. if the market demands it, who cares? you could also only cook meals at home, but i assume you pay premiums for things that you've rationalized to yourself are worth it.
if you want a car, and its available to you at fair market value, who cares? buy it and enjoy it. don't put principles to having fun, which is a subjective, irrational emotion.

getting "on the list" means absolutely nothing. virtually no dealer ever gets the allocations to support their demand.

buy a fun gap car. While I wait I picked up a wrangler 392 with extreme recon package (paid $1k over msrp) and haven’t had the top on since the week it came home. Honestly I smile as much in that thing as I ever have in a car. It’s fantastic

Perhaps it would be better to say, why pay an ADM for a 911 when you have an 812, F8 or 720S as a daily driver as well? That's what I find to be what differentiates in this segment. The money and actual price of the ADM dies not really matter. It just makes zero sense to pay ADM for something that by comparison is not much higher on the ladder than say a BMW M or Audi RS. When that is the point of vantage, ADM on a regular 911 just seems utterly bonkers. If it was about being cheap, there would be no exotics in the garage at all.
