I envy all the folks that purchased a '20-'21 911, before the '22 cost increase and likely got 5% off on top of that.....Deal of the decade on a new 911...so far that is.

That was me in 2019. It was a banging deal. I got to drive the car for 2.5 years and more than 35k miles. The experience was basically free.

Here's another quote from yesterday:

Incidentally, I found a Taycan locally with Inno and got a test drive. I see what you mean that it’s not auto-pilot; but I still think it has a lot of value here in Dallas.

I was contacted by a local dealership yesterday who offered me a used 2021TTS for 50,000 over MSRP. With taxes this would’ve been over $300,000 easily. I’m not willing to spend that much money.

Ridiculous. I suspect dealerships are buying these cars for around original MSRP. I recently got into a pre-owned base C2, 10% over MSRP. Borderline feel like a chump, but if the dealership is making around 10%, that sounds reasonable to me. On the other hand, a 20%+ markup on a TTS, nuts.

Last June/July, my dealer had a low mileage used TTS for sale via consignment. It was listed for $275k, which was well over MSRP. It sold!

I would have told him to put down the crack pipe as I walked out of the door.

I didn’t make this kind of money to give it away foolishly. No judgement on those that don’t blink at an ADM like that. I just don’t love any car that much including my dream car.

So the chip shortage will never end. People are paying $15K over for Ford Broncos, and everything else out there too. Hopefully a cleansing economic recession will occur shortly.
So what's the best way to deal with this situation as a car consumer?

Let's say I'm in the market to buy a Turbo / Turbo S but I'm not ultra-wealthy, but I do have access to funds to purchase, but I have to stretch a bit. Do I pull out all the stops and buy now or should I wait longer?

You could wait, cross your fingers and hope for the best……or you pay some form of ADM now and enjoy the car. There’s no guarantee that waiting will put you in a better position. I wouldn’t put myself in an uncomfortable financial position over it though.

Do not stretch. That’s not fun and buying these cars should be fun.

The dealers that are putting ADMs on Turbos are putting massive ADMs on them. To the point of being ridiculous (I’m hearing +$100k in some cases).

Please do not stretch to accommodate a high five figure (let alone six) ADM.

If you have FU money, and it’s a car you want, buy it.

If you’re wondering if you have FU money, I’d wait. Half the fun has been the buildup of securing an allocation, waiting for milestones, and then wondering if the ship sank.

There really are two points to your question. The first - should you ever pay an ADM - has been beaten to death in many threads and is entirely subjective and often emotional. As far as the second, stretching to buy an expensive car (at MSRP, with an ADM or even at a nice discount), that just does not make sense to me. I believe in putting the work/savings in first as that lets you truly enjoy the toy. But I have already outed myself as a risk-averse, fiscally conservative person.
