What are you guys seeing for lead times on 992s? My wife just gave me permission to look at getting another Carrera S (used to have a '08 997), and I'm wondering how far in advance I need to look at ordering....

12+ months before you’ll be able to secure an allocation, possibly closer to 18 for an S.

Comes down to dealer allocations. Contact a couple dealers nearby and ask them about what allocations they have. Email them a build code from the configurator and ask how long before you’d be able to get it. Allocations are still limited as a result of the semiconductor shortage and as a result, Porsche is adjusting allocations based on which markets they can get the most profit per vehicle.

OK, so if I am looking at closing a deal next April, I need to be placing the order in the next 90 days...... Wow. I've been hearing 4-5 months on American muscle cars (Hellcat, GT500), and my wife suggested I just wait a year and go back to a Porsche. Sounds like she's right....or maybe she just wants to drive a 911 occasionally.

Dealers receive allocations from Porsche—roughly quarterly. The allocation is a confirmed build slot and date. Once the dealer receives an allocation they can match a client against the build slot.
I don’t know a dealer that doesn’t have clients on a wait list for 992s. My dealer has 15 waiting on base 718s.
Talk to a dealer and ask about waitlists and allocations to get an idea on how long it’ll be. While there ask if the car will be at MSRP or extra ADM.
Good luck!

I gave a deposit to join the waiting list two weeks ago for a Carerra 4S with European Delivery. The dealer claimed, and I rolled my eyes, that I would receive my 911 4S by the end of this year. They said I was second on the waitlist for a 4S. Other dealers and this board are quoting 12 months or longer. I am trying to decide if the salesperson who has only been there three months is ill-informed or is raising concerns about whether I should be working with this dealership. I'm not in a rush so I can wait to enjoy the car next year so there wasn't a reason to state something that seems unsupported by facts.
And like the OP, this purchase was wife-approved!

I raced open wheel winged cars for about 20 years (SCCA Majors),at one time owning three pure race cars at once. I learned early on that discussing it with her prior to writing the check made them far less expensive. Had I not discussed with her first, any one of them would have cost me half of everything I had plus legal fees. I always get "permission" as long as she knows about them before they show up.

This is not how it works. You can’t place “an order” now to have your car next April.
Dealers receive allocations from Porsche—roughly quarterly. The allocation is a confirmed build slot and date. Once the dealer receives an allocation they can match a client against the build slot.

For me, there are four things that are not negotiable:
1) Manual transmission
2) Adaptive sport seats
3) Burmester audio
4) A color that is not black, white, grey or silver.
I'm guessing that this is a very unlikely combination to be sitting on a lot somewhere.
