Default 992 GTS Lightweight Package

Has anyone experienced a GTS with Lightweight Package? How does it compare to a standard GTS? My assumption is that the weight saving makes no noticeable difference in performance, but I am curious about the effect that stripping the sound deadening and adding thinner glass, etc, might have on the soundscape in the cabin? Any real world experiences anyone can share?

ok who wants to tell him?

IIRC for example the turbo S lightweight package only reduces by about 66lb. If that is worth 10k I'd probably working on losing half that weight myself lol

This is a burning question for me too, as I would consider spec'ing it but it's still too much of a question mark. The problem is that we're still limited to YT reviews for now, as just not many people have taken delivery of their GTS's yet. I'd expect that to change in the next few weeks as people actually get their personal cars, and we're not limited to what Porsche release to the press.

From what I've gleaned, if you would have spec'd the buckets and rear axle steering (and don't put people in the rear seat), it seems like the way to go. But there are also some YT reviews where they don't have the lightweight package and still comment on how good the car sounds in the interior so it may not be necessary.

I'm personally leaning towards keeping my spec with the 18-ways and I may occasionally put one of my kids in the rear seat so I'll probably go without. I do have the lightweight glass spec'd though, I'm hoping that will be a good compromise.

I locked my build spec this week, and have gone for the Lightweight Package with bucket seats. I doubt that Porsche would be releasing this as a near-$9k option unless the difference was meaningful.

Would they?

The difference is meaningful in the sense that it is... lightweight?

And it's only a $9k option because of the $6k buckets... and $2k rear axle steering... and $1200 glass... they also did you the favor of gutting the rear seat and some stuff you can't see. I'm sure it's louder though, how much is the question.

My guess is the Carrera S is a 7/10 sound in the cabin, standard GTS is a 8/10, GTS+lightweight glass 8.5/10, GTS + Lightweight package 8.75? I'm sure it's noticeably louder but there is a point where it could get overbearing. For a road car that's where I'd draw the line, but I am curious to get some sort of validation on that...

Of course you're right, the $9k price is really just the sum of the big items the pack contains, plus they strip out the rear seats, remove some of the sound deadening, swap the battery, and re-work the underfloor. And yes, your guess is as good as mine what the difference in sound is as a result - hence my asking for real world reviews

I have not selected it because its not compatible with Aerokit spoiler.

Also I don’t want the lightweight glass as it can crack easily i think. The buckets and RAS can be optioned separately.

Yep, me too and nobody has their cars yet... so we'll just have to wait.

Also FWIW, the battery comes with rear-axle steer regardless if you spec the lightweight package. So really it just gets down to sound-deadening and rear seat delete that is exclusive to the package...

I actually believe the lightweight glass is *less* likely to crack given that it's polycarbonate not glass...

There was a thread on this that I'm too lazy to dig up, but the lightweight glass has layers on either side of it that can be prone to breaking if some techniques to apply tint are used. At least that's what I've seen; I would be interested to hear of any other anecdotes.

The solution is to just make sure you make the installers aware, if you have the car tinted.

Another question I have is if the lightweight glass for the 2022s comes tinted from the factory... oddly, in the configurator if you spec the glass it changes the tint visually on the car. Not sure how tied to reality that is either....

Where is it stated that the lightweight package includes polycarb windows? Pretty sure it's still glass, just thinner.

I would not spec a GTS without the lightweight pkg. That and the LWB.
