Sure, if the track allows it. Some tracks don’t allow cabs. There’s a broomstick rule to follow, and you can’t have the top down on most any track, but I’ve tracked my cab a few times.

The rules followed by most tracks:

Read for yourself what the rules say about convertibles…or better yet, call the folks at the track you would like to track at, and ask them. I would also check with your insurance company to see if they will even insure you while on the track?

I will say this, I’ve never seen a convertible at WGI. Although that doesn’t mean they aren’t allowed if they meet certain conditions, as mentioned in the link I provided.

As mentioned above, depends on where and who you're running with. PCA is generally fine. The car itself holds its ground. It's no lightweight, so preparation is necessary, specially the brakes. Some info in this past thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1163...track-day.html

It's both a track facility thing AND the organization running the event, so you[ will want to check with both. The Cab's have passive roll over devices that will activate if the computers determine the car is at an angle. For that reason, if you track your cab two things you want to do

1) Avoid running up on the berms on the corners. I was Instructing in an AMG Mercedes with a student a few years back and his activated on the berm, it was enough to trigger the computer and fire them off.

2) Put your top down if they will allow you to. Should you catch that berm, or drop two off the track and it goes off, the two risers will go through your back window and you may wind up replacing the whole top.

That's one of those things you don't even think about until it happens, right?

I don't know, I would assume not, but man that would be very dangerous not to have those in case you did roll over.

I have read on at least one track website that convertibles are OK if the windscreen will protect the occupant's head. This is from the Owner's Manual for the 2020 base cab: "The roll-over protection system consists of two extendable assemblies which, together with the wind- screen frame, ensure sufficient headroom for all occupants if the vehicle rolls over."

My emphasis added.

Seems like this answers that question.

That is a anomaly for sure.

I’ve done at least 20 PCA DE’s at Sebring and their is always 20 or 30 Cabs participating in every event. They were competitive and having a great time and you should to.
