992 SAFARI

The 2500 limit number is annoying because I honestly feel this beauty should be added as a permanent option to the 911 offering. I want one, period. But I’m not a VIP or collector and would never ever get an allocation even so I can afford it.
I’m almost feeling if demand is high enough (it’s a hit no doubt,) that they have already planned (the what if) into their product roadmap. Also, the Heritage is parts bin, paint, schema, whereas the Dakar is truly new and the investment alone into the engineering package is purposeful and strategic for a long term product. I bet there will be a base 911 and up across the range (with the exception of GT) option for an on/offroad version if the customer wants that experience. A base or S Dakar would be sick! That strategy would also protect the 2500 initial units and preserve those happy owners that they have something special.
Actually, this ad I found on YouTube somewhat hints this will be a long term offering and anyone looking to buy a new 911 can choose an on/off road version of the 911 much like the Audi offroad and many other brands such as Mercedes who also offer an offroad version of the E-class wagon etc.
Why would Porsche release this ad and not note that it’s limited and why the ad at all? Heritage didn’t get an ad campaign, I believe?
The new 911 Dakar (says long term IMO)
Not, the limited edition 911 Dakar. (Setting expectation)

Here's my configuration with the Rallye package. Opted for satin black wheels. Maybe a bit cheesy, but I would totally drive it off-road. Truly enjoy my others including air cooled 993, TTS and GT3, and this would be so different. What do u guys think?

This car sadly held my attention for less time than the Sport Classic.

Getting close to finalise my configuration.
I will probably go for the simplest and most classical white-on-black.
For my intended use shall be a bit sporty looking but not attracting too much attention.
Will have the confy seats for long journeys and a good deal of daily use.
Not the most attention grabbing, but who is in the knowledge will recognise.
A few carbon fibre accents inside and out will help make it a little special.
Probably the most boring configuration you can come up with ... but I already have a speedyellow 911 ...for special days and track use.

I like it a lot and I personally like the white wheels. It feels right with this design.

Also the smaller tires are an advantage on loose surface or snow.
Overall it is true that a Turbo on snow tires is as good 90% of the time in winter... but the remaining 10% is where the most fun is ...

If I were a sheik in the middle east I would get this Dakar 911. I think that's the target individual for this.
However, for $120K less or so, this is now in production w/ my name on it. I'd also get this if I were a sheik. Hopefully will get it by the first of the year:

Interestingly, they are doing the "aluminum" gear selector as standard on the Dakar. Given how they've been messing around with this in recent models - GT3 get's manual look selector - I think they've realized the shaver was a mistake.

....but I would totally drive it off-road.....
You're going to take a $ 250,000 car off-road? Do you have any off-road experience?
I do - quite a bit of it, and I won't even take my '22 $ 45,000 Ford Ranger off-road. There is no faster way to tear up your machinery than going into the woods and sand. One you submerge all those nice chassis parts, do you have a lift at home to raise it up and get all the crud out? And the mud out of the rear engine bay and the backside of the wheels? And ready for panel damage on the pretty paint job? Didn't think so.....
You want to go off-road, get yourself one of these instead. Run this wide open off the blacktop for just 15 seconds and see if you can even catch your breath afterwards. This is a machine made for that and you will still tear it up.
Porsche Safari is a 'poser car, nothing more. Get real.

The maximum challege most owners will give a Dakar is winter driving or an unpaved road, besides the ubiquitous speed-bumps ...
For the real offroad I have this ... Dakar real homologation special from 1997 ...

It's obviously nice but $28k for a paint job, even a nice one like this is double the price of a PTS, bit steep, no?

I love how everyone is unequivocally sure about what people will do with their cars when they have never met them, know nothing about them, the environment they live in, what they enjoy doing and what they will and won't consider.
Then they come on a forum to spout that utterly uninformed nonsense.
Slip, I like your style. Buy what you want, do what you want, when you want.
I look forward to seeing imagery of your dirt and dust-covered 911 Dakar on these very pages. Simpson Desert will be awesome.

Interesting view point, I have an allocation for the 911 Dakar and don’t see any reason not to take it offroad, that’s what it was designed to do. I’m already planning a Simpson desert crossing with it when it arrives. Most people never take their G wagons off the tarmac…..I use my vehicles as intended:
